Barbara Shanley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2025.
Hingham - Barbara Ann Shanley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on May 29, 1939, in Lynn, MA, she was the cherished daughter of Henry and Angela (Marie) Rappa of Revere.

Barbara was the loving wife of James Shanley for 66 wonderful years and mother to two children, James (Sue) and Deborah (Rowdy). Her grandsons were the loves of her life. She leaves behind Patrick Shanley (Danna), Ryan Shanley (Kati), Kevin Shanley (Monica), Nicholas Lachney, and Jackson Lachney. Barbara also delighted in her role as a great-grandmother to Ethan Shanley.

For many years, Barbara and Jim owned and operated the retail stores Clothes Quarters and Price Point on Cape Cod. Their entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to their community left a lasting impression on those they served.

A true nurturer, she dedicated her life to making others feel loved and cared for, most notably through the meals she lovingly prepared. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the aromas of her favorite recipes. Whether it was a special holiday feast, or a simple meal, her cooking brought people together and created lasting memories.

In addition to being an amazing cook, Barbara had a gift for making everyone feel like they were at home in her house. Her care for others, and her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Please join us as we remember Barbara with stories and laughter. A celebration of life will be held on February 15, 2025, at Grille 151, 151 Main St, Weymouth, MA 02188 from 1pm - 4pm.

I will always remember how she made me feel so very welcome when I came to check out the Boston area before accepting the best job ever...taking care of her grandson, Nicholas. She welcomed me with my favorite kind of cake with a sweet message written on it....She was always caring and thoughtful. I grew to love her very much and will always cherish my memories of and with her.

Barbara was always moving. She was the first one to get up from the dinner table and start cleaning up. Loved the stories she used to tell.
