After a long and happy life, Barbara passed away on January 3, 2011 at the Grace Hospice, in Winnipeg. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Dennis but is survived by her brother Edward, children Roger (Beth), Mark (Bev) and Christina (Ted); grandchildren Lauren, Heather, Kevin, Colin, and Stefan.

Barbara was born at Slade Hall, Manchester, England on Nov. 17, 1928 and with the exception of terms spent at Ackworth Quaker boarding school, lived there until her marriage. In 1954 Barbara and Dennis emigrated to Burnaby, BC where all of the children were born. In 1964 the family moved to Fredericton, NB where life was filled with bridge, skiing and Scottish country dance. After completion of the Mactaquac dam in 1974 the family then moved to Winnipeg, MB where life for Barbara was less filled with skiing, more with bridge and lawn bowling. Barbara spent her early years in Winnipeg working at Health Sciences Centre and then, after Dennis retired, indulged in her love of travel to warmer places.

An avid gardener, Barbara was a common sight in the yard at their former house on Waterloo St., surrounded by plants and dogs. Reading was another passion and, when not in the garden, she could be found in her favourite chair with a dog, a drink and a book. Baa, as she was known to most, will be missed here at home and around the world by family in New Zealand, France, England and Thailand. Baa will also be missed by her many new friends at Sturgeon Creek ll Retirement Residence. Special thanks to the staff at Grace Hospice for their gentle care and to all those who helped us through her illness.

A memorial reception will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 8 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara's memory to The Grace Hospital Foundation (Grace Hospice), or to a charity of your choice.
