Barbra Carson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
Barbra Joyce Carson (née Alexander) passed away on April 15, 2025 following a period of declining health. Barbra was born at home on August 6, 1937 in Leicester, Nova Scotia and grew up in neighboring Amherst.

She is survived by her children Sandra, Sara, and Robert and her husband Douglas whom she married in Cambridge, England in 1960. Also mourning her passing are daughter-in-law Meg and grandchildren Shirley, Richie, Robert, and Margaret.

Of Barbra's five siblings, only her sister Lois MacDougall survives and resides in Canada along with multiple nieces and nephews.

While living in New Jersey, Barbra was very active in a variety of social organizations especially gourmet groups and the Canadian Women's Club of New York City where she served as Vice President for several years. As her children grew older, Barbra returned to work, becoming a fully registered representative for Merrill Lynch at their world headquarters on Wall Street - where she enjoyed every day for 13 years until retirement just prior to the World Trade Disaster and the loss of several friends. Barbra was also a two-time cancer survivor.

Years spent in Canada, England, and the USA have yielded countless friends and she often expressed gratitude that she was able to experience and enjoy so much of the world and make so many friends after coming from a small town in the Maritimes.

Barbra was the kindest woman I knew. All the years we spent together there was never a bad word about anyone or anything. If it was a gourmet meal and it flopped she would say , " well there is always pizza!" That actually happened once when the theme was blueberry! Barbara´s laugh was contagious. I will always be in awe of the mother , wife and friend she was.
