Barry Anbinder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2023.
Barry Anbinder, 73, of Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, died on June 18th, 2023.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 7th, 1949 to Tulea and Gussie Anbinder. At age 15, he met the love of his life, Adrienne, and the two married in 1969. Barry received a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Brooklyn College. He went on to write and direct theater in New York and Georgia, including "Fathers and Daughters," a loving tribute to his daughters, which opened at the 14th St Playhouse in Atlanta, Georgia in 2006 to rave reviews. Throughout his life, he acted (including an appearance in the 2004 World Premiere of The Color Purple in Atlanta), taught high school theater, and cultivated a decades-long career in advertising. In 1989, he and his wife, Adrienne, founded Creative Consultants, Inc., a successful Atlanta advertising agency from which he retired in 2012. Kroger was one of the agency's key clients, and Barry was proud to have created, along with Adrienne, the long-used tagline, "Kroger: For Goodness Sake." Over the course of nearly a decade, he wrote and provided voiceover talent for over 700 radio commercials.

Throughout his career, Barry devoted much time and talent to pro-bono projects, including the writing and directing of promotional videos for Men Stopping Violence, Students Without Mothers, Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence and DeKalb Rape Crisis Center. After he and Adrienne moved to the Serenbe community of Chattahoochee Hills in 2013, he focused his energy on creating the Chatt Hills Community Theatre, for which he directed many shows, including Our Town and Almost Maine. He deeply enjoyed the relationships he developed in Serenbe and the work he did with The Bridge, a community group formed to engage white men and men of color in dialogue about race.

Barry was a devoted, loving, proud husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest joy in life was the family he felt blessed to call his. He is is survived by his wife, Adrienne, daughter Elyssa Bass and son-in-law Matt Bass, daughter Tricia Anbinder, and grandchildren Jordan Bass, Alex Bass, Sam Levy, and Julia Levy, brothers Steve Anbinder and Paul Anbinder.

A celebration of life was held for family, friends, and neighbors on Wednesday, June 21st. In lieu of flowers Adrienne asks that donations go to Community Brickworks, https:// www.communitybrickworks.org/ or Coco's Cupboard, https://www.cocoscupboardinc.org/
