Barry Curtis Memoriam

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2020.
Peacefully at his home in Victoria BC on August 16, 2020. Barry is survived by his wife Ann, his children Rosalind Minaji (Brian), James (Sheri), Benjamin, and Timothy (Carly) as well as grandchildren Irene, Julia, Christopher and Andrew. Barry was born in a small fishing village in Cornwall, England and immigrated to Canada in 1969 to work as a teacher in the Hamilton Wentworth School Board. He held the position of Head of Science at both Sherwood and Southmount Secondary Schools and was a long-time volunteer for the Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair. Barry was also a skilled worker, who built the family cottage, and could always be counted on to help his children with home renovations. He will be remembered for his wry sense of humour and his love of cycling, snooker, sailing and a good Cornish pasty. He was happiest when busy and his retirement years were spent wintering in Victoria and summering in Prince Edward Island, where he was always within the sound of the sea. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.

For nearly 40 years, Barry and Ann have been our summertime neighbours and dear friends, on our beloved Prince Edward Island. You couldn't possibly find a more loyal, kind, and generous friend than Barry -- and the void he leaves in our lives is large.
We will miss our happy times together -- the sailing adventures, cape walks, Barry's wry humour, and the best fishcakes ever!
Happy sailing, Barry!

I will miss my sly, cheeky, kind and loving grandfather very much. Times I've spent with him sailing, touring the PEI countryside, eating delicious pasties and fish and chips, and in later years drinking proper brown ales are some of the fondest memories I have. Though it's devastating to lose him, I'm thrilled that I got to spend as much time with him as I did. Thanks for all the great times and the priceless wisdom Grampy.

I remember Barry as a kind and gentle man, loyal and committed to his beloved wife Ann. I've met Ros and Brian and know he has passed many on great skills and attributes to his wider family. I am glad I knew him for that brief spell between 1964 and 1969 when he made the so courageous step of making a new life as a Cornish Canadian. RIP, love to those who grieve.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my elder brother who I haven't been able to see for several years and was hoping one day to visit. Tragically this will never happen now so I will look back with great happiness to the wonderful memories of us growing up together in Portscatho, going camping, sailing in his little sailing dinghy and Xmas morning opening presents together. I will treasure these memories to the end of my days.
