The news of Barry's passing was shocking and overwhelmingly sad news. My heart goes out to his wife children. We lived in Riverdale and went to high school and college together and refound each other as Doctor and Patient, and friend. May his Memory be a Blessing, it will always be for me.

To Dr. Shapiro's wife and family, the news of Dr. Shapiro's death has sadden me and my husband. And, immediately when I read his name in the news, I knew it was my caring, kind, wonderful doctor who was killed in a tragic accident. Many years ago Dr. Shapiro operated on me, when I could not lift my head off my pillar suffering from migraine headaches. He changed my life, although, I hemorrhaged after surgery he gave me the best care a patient could hope for and I recovered and my husband and I were always thankful for his professional care and friendship during that time in our lives. He was a great doctor, a warm and kind man always ready to help all his patients. I am glad he was my doctor and sad he is gone. Such a great man, Dr. Shapiro RIP

I was saddened and stunned when I got the letter from WestMed. I was a patient. Dr. Shapiro listened to my experiences (he did not rely solely on the hearing test results) and sent me for an MRI. I am grateful because that scan showed my rare medical condition. He was a kind and caring doctor who was taken before his time. My condolences to his family.

My entire family has been treated by Dr Shapiro at one time or another for the past 25 years. He was always kind and caring, telling me once oh, you'll probably live to 100! It was the right comment at the exactly right time. We are so sorry, so stunned, to hear this news.
To Dr Jay, another fine, caring physician, we send our heartfelt prayers and condolences.

I was a patient of Dr. Shapiro's. He was a wonderful doctor. Very patient about my questions. We had great talks about films and he helped me pronounce the Irish actress' name Saoise Ronan. "He said to me, "I am surprised you don't know how to pronounce her name." And I said, "Thanks for the medication and the proper pronunciation!"
I am shocked and saddened by his passing.

I was in Barry's med school class at Mt. Sinai. Remember him as a nice guy, warm, dedicated. Had his DMD when he joined the med school class and I'm sure he'll be missed by his family, his patients, and his colleagues.
