Barton Kogan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 6 to Oct. 7, 2022.
BARTON H. KOGAN passed away on October 3rd in his 75th year. The cause of death was heart disease. Bart was the son of the late Nathan B. Kogan and Marjorie D. Kogan of New York City, and the beloved brother of Dr. Michael S. Kogan of Charleston, South Carolina.
Bart was a pillar of the Los Angeles Jewish Community, serving in many leadership positions at his beloved Sinai Temple over a period of fifty years. At the time of his death, he was Co-Chair of the Temple's Board of Governors. Bart was past president of the Western Region of the Federation of Temple Mens' Clubs. He served on the Boards of the Los Angeles Hebrew High School, and the Zeigler School of Rabbinic Studies of the American Jewish University.
Bart was a devoted member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, serving for many years as their Alumni Advisor. He mentored a large number of young people, helping them to deal with personal and professional problems, and in many cases, finding positions for them in the world of real estate. Bart held B.A. and M.A. degrees in Business Administration from George Washington University, to which he gave generous support over half a century.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Barton deeply mourn his passing from their lives. They remember him as a delightful, engaging person, with a marvelous sense of humor, who knew how to be a faithful friend, an upbeat companion in good times and a reliable rock of help in bad. He gave of himself in so many ways. His was a great generosity of spirit, expressed in personal relationships and in his many philanthropies. May his life of good deeds performed with a good will and a full heart, be an example and an inspiration to all of us as we embark on this New Year. May his memory be a blessing. Amen.
Burial will be in New York City. A memorial service will be held at a future date at Sinai Temple, L.A.

I hadn't heard from Bart for so long, and he hadn't answered messages. I just looked him up on Google search and find out he passed in 2022. So sad!

I'm so lucky to have that I got to share a little of my family life with Bart . I am Michael Kogan, no relation just share a Kogan namesake . Having a daughter at GW and sharing a common friend it was no doubt I was going to meet Bart. I did and started a friendship for the last two years. Bart took interest in Morgan and always sent words of encouragement and always wanted to know how she was doing. He cared , I could tell he was sincere and a was always asking about what she was involved with on campus as well as her grades were in class . He often shared advice on my business always gave a positive spin on my ideas. A true great man.

As a Brother of The Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Bart was always kind and there for you. Although he was a member from a different Chapter, he was always there for the Brothers of Delta Eta chapter of Kappa Sigma. He will be greatly missed...

Bart was a childhood friend of my brother and when my brother died, he became a support and then a friend to me. I treasured his visits to New York and was wondering when he was coming. He was a treasured friend, a source of wonderful memories about my older brother and and a caring person. I will miss him so much. The world has lost a special person and a shining light.

What a shocking loss. Bart and I have been friends for 35+ years. His generosity to the LA LGBT Center was consistent and generous. I designed his apartment at the Blair House and he treasured incorporating family artwork and accessories of great sentimental value. Great and fun man!!!

Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time. My long distance friend since 2020 I will cherish our texts and conversations, especially our last face time conversation approximately a month ago. God took you before we could meet in person but I am grateful for the guidance and friendship we shared. I miss you already and pray that you are in God´s loving embrace.
