So sorry to hear of Belinda"s passing. We were best friends all thru high school & elementary school . We had so many good times together & could stay on the phone for hours. We called each other several times over the years & sent Christmas cards. She was a good support for me whenever I needed it. I'm glad she is at peace now & not suffering.

I haven't seen Belinda since high school. Belinda was a favorite to all her classmates. Recently, we had a reunion and many asked about Belinda. I'm certain, over the years, all who came in contact with her loved her, she was well loved by all her classmates at such a young age in Bassett. I can see by her picture, she was still beautiful. Dear Jamie, Siri, and Emma -- I am inconsolable today with the news I just received that my earliest childhood friend has died. Belinda and I have been friends all these years since growing up together in Bassett. We have kept in touch always, but alas I never had a contact for any of you. I last saw Belinda in Bassett in April 2024. I knew of her diagnosis, and we had a lovely day in the childhood home we both loved so much. I have a new novel coming out on June 24th, and last year when we were together, she asked to read an early digital copy, and I sent it to her. She read it and sent me her comments. For the past 5-6 months, I have been trying to contact her to tell her that her name would be in the Acknowledgments of the book and to tell her of my grateful heart for her reading it. But more than that, I wanted to tell her of my grateful heart for her friendship. My regret is that I didn't somehow find a way to contact you all. I would love to talk with you if you ever have the desire, but I hope to come to Bassett for the memorial service when you set the date. I have lived in Charlotte all these past 50 years, and I can get to Bassett easily. I am enclosing a photo of my last visit with my beloved Belinda in Bassett. I send my deepest condolences, that old Latin word which means I share your sorrow.

Belinda Scanlon was a beautiful woman inside and out. She fit a descriptor that I call "dear of heart". She was an amazing mother, an amazing daughter, a loving sister and a wonderful friend. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds. We had a 37-year friendship where she never failed to reach out to others with a gentleness and kind spirit.
Her wit, her style, her strength will be greatly missed. I will cherish all those memories I have of her sweltering in an Italian heat wave, dropping pumpkin pie on the floor at Thanksgiving, asking me to be Emma's godfather, participating in a last-minute shopping trip to Stu Leonards, making Granny's Berry Cobbler in the English countryside, including my own mother on her massive Xmas card list...and on and on.
I'm going to remember all the fabulous times we had together and will always be there for Emma and Siri. Blessedly Belinda got to know her 2 new granddaughters which I know gave her many wonderful moments this past while. Laine and Charlotte are lucky young ladies. We are all lucky for our memories of Belinda.
