Ben Eide Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 18, 2023.

PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE:  THE MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR BEN EIDE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 1:30 P.M. SATURDAY, MARCH 18, 2023 AT BOWDON LUTHERAN CHURCH.

Ben B. Eide, 86, Bowdon, North Dakota passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, North Dakota.  A memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Bowdon Lutheran Church, Bowdon, North Dakota.  Bev Vollmer will officiate and burial will be in the Bowdon Lutheran Cemetery, rural Bowdon, North Dakota.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, North Dakota.

Bennie B. Eide was born on November 23, 1936 to Ben & Deborah (Lund) Eide in Carrington, ND. He lived in Bowdon for a few years before moving to the family farmstead north of town in the summer of 1943. He attended rural Bowman school as a third grader in the fall of 1941, and in 1950 continued his high school years in Bowdon until graduating in 1954. After graduating high school, he enrolled at NDSU for a short time before returning to the farm to help tend to the livestock and farming duties.

Ben had a love for animals, especially cattle.  He was very active in 4-H where he showed Angus cattle both at the county fair and North Dakota Winter Show. His dedication led him to be a 4-H leader for many years. Ben was a faithful member of the Bowdon Lutheran Church. He took great pride in being a caretaker of the Bowdon Lutheran Cemetery. Ben was a member of the Bowdon Lions club.

In May of 1986 he married Linda Neuman and in April of 1987 they had their one and only child, a girl, Laura Beth. Ben continued to farm/ranch until 2014 when he and Linda moved to Bowdon. In his ‘retirement’, he loved his time with his granddaughters and trips out to the farm to help where he could or to just see what was going on.

Ben survived by his wife Linda Eide (Neuman), daughter Laura (Bryce) Monson, and 2 beautiful granddaughters Anna & Ellie; brother Donald “Punce” (Fritzi) Eide, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

He proceeded in death by his parents Ben Sr. & Deborah; brother Bobby; and many beloved pets.

Blessed be his memory!

Ben was a true mentor and giver to me. Learned so much from him and his mother, Deborah. I had the privilege of learning how to judge cattle from him in the 4h and in judging won some at the state level. Any knowledge i had here came from Ben. While working for them in the summers I learned so much. I thought I was good at tossing bales but could not keep up with Ben. He would tell me it was all technique which was part of it as well as he was a very strong man. His straightforward and calm demeanor was good for my hyper personality. He even occasionally laughed at my jokes. When he married Linda, who was a Bownan country school classmate i was so thrilled for both of these good people. Best yet his legacy will continue with his daughter and son in law.
