Michael Anthony "Iao" Shelton

MICHAEL IAO ANTHONY SHELTON Michael "Iao" Anthony Shelton, age 54, of Madrid died at Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe on Feb 8, 2018. He was born December 7, 1963 in Fort Worth, TX where he was lovingly raised by Clyde Eugene Shelton and Glendell Louise Morris Shelton. Exceptionally bright, Michael attended Cistercian Preparatory School in Irving, TX and Mountain Open High School in Evergreen, CO. At 16, he went on to study organic chemistry at the University of Colorado and later at the University of New Mexico. Michael lived in New Mexico, California, Hawaii and Colombia pursuing his passion for research in the organic and medicinal chemistry of plants known to indigenous peoples. He loved to hike, read, create art and ponder the mysteries of life. He was always curious and enjoyed discussing the "big questions." Late in life Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Michael is survived by his mother Barbara Chism in TX, sisters Claire Escamilla and Laura Hullum in TX and Davinia Rizzo in NM.
