Benjamin Costello Obituary

COSTELLO Benjamin R. Costello, age 85 of Stratford, died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Fairfield, June 6, 1923, he was a son of the late Anthony William and Lucy Perrotti Costello. A U. S. Army veteran of World War II, he was vice president of Sales for Vallerie Transportation of Norwalk for 45 years. An avid golfer, he was an honorary member of the Mill River Country Club for more than 50 years where he also served as a past president, was the golf chairman and also served on the Board of Governors. He was a Senior champion of several Greater Bridgeport area golf tournaments, and also served as the chairman of the Michelob Charity Golf Tournament for many years. At Bridgeport Hospital in 2005, the Ben Costello Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service was established to commemorate his dedicated service to the Kaulbach Golf Classic Foundation. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie Ordos Costello and two brothers, Dominic and Joseph Costello. Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Costello; three brothers, Anthony and Rudolph Costello, both of Fairfield and Christopher Costello of Stratford; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Having met Ben on the golf course(how unusual) it has been my pleasure to call Ben a friend.Playing with Ben and Gary Mastronardi were some of my fondest moments,due to a death in my family I am unable to attend.My thoughts and prays go out to you and you family.Jim and Stacie Curran
