Benjamin Hagler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2017.
Benjamin Anthony Hagler, 47, of Montgomery, passed away at home on December 25, 2017. Ben was born on February 17, 1970 in Montgomery, to Joe and Katherine Timmerman Hagler. He is survived by his wife, Lindsey Smith Hagler, his parents, and his brother, William "Bill" Hagler, all of Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ruby and Otis Hagler and Lillian and Frank Timmerman.
Ben was a 1988 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and attended the University of Alabama. He played on the tennis team in both high school and college.
Ben was an avid music fan, and started playing the drums and singing in bands at an early age and played in many groups over the years. He was well known throughout Alabama for his enthusiastic performances and unique vocals. Ben was influenced by a variety of artists. He turned his talent and music knowledge into a career, becoming a well-known radio personality in the Montgomery area, most recently with Bluewater Broadcasting, where he worked for the past 14 years. Ben also co-hosted a radio news morning program and often joined his father on his long-running tv show, Good Afternoon Montgomery. His voice was well-known in the area, and he served his community by often performing for area charities such as Toys for Tots and the Montgomery Humane Society.
Ben was a devoted fan of the University of Alabama football team and greatly enjoyed attending games with his father, brother, wife, and friends. He loved his family tremendously and cherished his wife, Lindsey, and counted thousands as friends. Ben was a kind and generous friend, and truly never met a stranger. He touched many through his music and his warm and boisterous on-air personality. His passing will leave a void in the Montgomery music and broadcasting community.
Pallbearers will be John Mosley, Bo Walker, Rick Pestrichelli, Jamie Martin, Costas Katechis and Bert Loeb. Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of Bluewater Broadcasting and Bill Kennedy.
Funeral services will take place at Frazer Methodist Church on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00AM. Visitation with the family begins at 10:30AM. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ben's memory be made the Montgomery Humane Society, the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.

I remember Ben so well at the Tennis Circuit Matches during the school years when my son , George ,and Ben played the Circuit. Ben always spoke to me and smiled and over the years was always glad when I saw him and he talked with me.
Knew of his music and drum interests. I am so sorry and offer my sincere condolences to Ben's family and friends ,I am saddened to learn of your loss.

I only met Ben once but my daughter, Tara Hutchison Wizorek loved him like a brother for over 20 years. She was just inconsolable when she heard the news on Christmas Day. Our prayers are with his parents, brother and wife, Lindsey. The Rock & Roll Band in Heaven just gained an outstanding drummer & vocalist.

Ben Hagler always had a smile for me from the first time I met him playing with the Roadrunners at Crockmeirs through the last time I saw him at a 1048 reunion. He was supportive of so many people and charities and always used his charm for good. My heart is better for having known Ben and I will carry that always, along with so many memories. My heart goes out to his wife and parents, family and friends.

I have so many memories that will forever hold a little piece of Ben with in them.... He was an extraordinary man that not only had a fantastic musical ability that could lighten the heaviest of souls but he held the heart of a comedic warrior that was always willing to battle to bring out a smile or carve out a laugh.... The world is definitely a little dimmer now and will forever hold the void of Ben..... TTFN...Benny Hanna....
