On August 18, 2023, the Lord called home Benjamin Martin Poblete, a cherished husband, loving father, doting grandfather, and devoted friend. At the age of 82, Ben peacefully passed away in the comfort of his Valencia home.
Ben's journey began on September 24, 1940, when he was born in Cavite City, Philippines to Florentino and Irene Poblete. As the eighth child among ten siblings, he grew up surrounded by a bustling family that instilled in him the values of compassion, faith, and a deep sense of community.
In 1979, Ben married his beloved Margarita, and their enduring partnership spanned over four decades, filled with love, shared dreams, and unwavering support. From this union, two children were born: Mark and Melanie.
Mark, residing in Las Vegas, blessed Benjamin with three grandchildren - Logan, Shane, and Markie. Melanie, alongside her husband Jonathan Wright in Los Angeles, brought further joy with their newborn son, Henry. Additionally, the Poblete family embraced Jeffrey, their adopted son, along with his wife Scheryl and their two children, Zacarrie and Jordan.
Ben's life was a testament to his deep Christian faith. A devoted servant of God, he dedicated himself to a life of service. He extended a helping hand to the homeless, offered guidance to those incarcerated, and lent his melodious voice to the church choir. With boundless enthusiasm, he assumed leadership roles in church musicals and dramas, touching hearts and souls with his artistic talents.
Beyond his spiritual pursuits, Ben's passion for cooking Filipino cuisine brought delight to family and friends alike. His kitchen creations were a testament to his love and warmth, and he often shared his culinary talents with those he cared for.
His wide-ranging interests included a love for broadway classics, James Bond, Golden Girls, and all movies, especially action, revealing his playful and adventurous spirit. Yet perhaps his most remarkable attribute was his capacity for forgiveness and his refusal to harbor anger. His heart was a haven of compassion, a quality that endeared him to many.
Benjamin's boundless love extended to his extensive family network. He cherished his role as a brother, uncle, and friend, and his presence illuminated countless gatherings and celebrations. He was not only a beacon of faith, but also a peacemaker. Friends and family often turned to him to help resolve disputes, as he possessed a unique ability to listen, understand, and offer gentle wisdom.
His profound love for the Lord permeated every aspect of his life, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the vibrant life he lived, a life defined by faith, love, and service.
A memorial service to honor Benjamin's life will be held on September 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. local time at his home in Valencia, Philippines. Another service in Southern California will be held at a date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to support Ben and Margie's children's ministry in Cambucad, Valencia, Philippines.
