Benjamin Shaver

Ben and Evelyn were dear friends of my mother and our family. We used to go to Port Aransas together. Dr. Shaver made us come in from noon until after 2:00 p.m. Then we had to put alcohol in our ears! What a bummer for young children on vacation at the beach. However, we must appreciate the fact that as adults today none of us have skin cancer and we still have our hearing! Our family was blessed to have Dr. Shaver and his family in our lives. He is at peace and I remember him and is family fondly. Becky, John, Jim, you and your families are in my prayers. (I can assure you that mother, Irene, was there to greet him in heaven. Her exit visa from earth was on 10.19.10) Love to your extended families...

I will never forget Dr. Shaver's phone calls after suppertime to check on one or the other of my children who had tonsillitis, fever, or the flu. His step by step instructions helped me take care of my children with care and healing and common sense. His name is still mentioned when my own grandchildren are ill and need a healing touch. Dr. Shaver was a gift to any parents with children that he treated. Our prayers of gratitude and sympathy go out to his family.

Dr. Shaver was our family pediatrician from 1948 through 1968 for all 5 of us. His gentle, kind,& compassionate care left a lasting impression on each of us. He was a fine & genuine individual; a wonderful doctor. We have spoken of him so many times at family gatherings & were blessed to run into him off & on at his old office building. Thank God for His gifts shared through Dr. Shaver. You are in our prayers & may God bless you with His peace each day.

My sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Shaver. As the oldest of six children, he was a welcome and frequent presence in our lives. I remember him as calm and funny, and I actually enjoyed going to the doctor, whether as the primary patient or accompanying my mother and one or more of my siblings. My prayers are with him and his family.

Pampa was the most interesting man I've had the pleasure of knowing. He was such a joy to talk to--he was interested in everything! He loved to discuss baking, gardening, medicine, and current events--he never hesitated to speak his mind! I admired him greatly. He was always so proud of his chocolate cakes and his plants, and was always genuinely anxious to know what was going on in your own life...he was determined and hilarious, and I will miss him greatly.

My deepest condolences to Dr. Shaver's family. I was born in 1952 and have 4 siblings, the youngest born in 1962 and my son born in 1970 and we all had Dr. Shaver as our pediatrician. My mother actually wrote all of his detailed instructions in our baby books and I have passed that information down to my children and what worked then, still is working now. Dr. Shaver left a great legacy and he will be missed by all that knew him.

Dr. Shaver was our pediatrician in the 60's-70's for both my son & daughter. No matter what time day or night or weekends, if emergency arose, he would say, "meet me down at my office in 30 minutes". He had such a wonderful soothing way with children & anxious parents. He will be sorely missed. We all loved him dearly.

I've known Dr. Ben on and off since 1999 through the San Antonio Liederkranz. He was always a joy to interact with, and never let his infirmities affect his spirit or attitude. I'm sure he is now in the loving arms of the Lord, with his wonderful wife. I expect he'll be watching over us for our Christmas concert as well.

I grew up a few houses from the Shaver family and remember Dr. Shaver as the kindest man and always enjoyed playing around and in their house. As kids always do, we often had injuries and cuts and he always took time to sew up the cuts and was never in a rush to help and calmly assure us the we would be fine. My sister married his son and I will always feel blessed to be a part of their family and to have known such giving and caring man. I can only hope to be the father that he was to his family and have the big heart and laugh and warm smile he always gave us. I know he is with the Lord and my prayers go out to all his family.

Dr. Shaver was both my sister & my baby doctor!!! My parents told us of how kind and dedicated he always was!!! He was greatly appreciated, few doctors these days meet up to his standards!...Deepest sympathy to his family and we will keep you in our prayers. Gloria Ortega & Alice O. Zamora~(former patients).

Dr. Shaver was both of my children's Pediatrician. There was never a kinder, gentler man. I knew that my children had the best of the best. I have thought of him frequently over the years and shared stories of his kindness with many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Thank you, Dr. Shaver for keeping my children healthy.

I have such fond memories of Dr. Shaver from my years at Methodist Hospital--the newborn nursery and pediatrics. His calm, professional demeanor was most appreciated by all the nurses. My deepest sympathy to his entire family. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
