Bernadette Eaglin Lavine

Mrs. Bernadette Eaglin Lavine 79, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on Sunday August 07, 2022. A native of Bellevue, Louisiana she was the third child of seven children. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heath Catholic Church in Port Arthur, Texas.

After completing her education at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she received her Nurse’s Aide Degree and worked in the Colored Ward at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She also worked as a Home Health Aide, then began working at the Rectory for the priest (as their housekeeper for numerous years until she retired. Her retirement did not last long, and she became a foster grandparent for over 10 years where she enjoyed working with the younger students. Mrs. Lavine touched so many lives both young and old, she was very soft spoken and would rarely raise her voice, but when she did, we knew to stand at attention. Our mother had a special love for all her children and for your birthday and Christmas you always received a gift that was just fit for you that only a mother could do. While at Sacred Heart she was affiliated with the Ladies Auxiliary and a Sunday School Teacher and demanded that all her children had to give back and serve the Lord is some capacity. Her sons were known as the Stacy Adams boys because that’s the only shoes their dad would purchase for them. She had so much love for her children as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was that virtuous women in every capacity.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd Joseph Eaglin. and Florence Henry Eaglin. Her husband of 48 years upon the time of his passing Kalton Lavine Sr, two brothers Bernard Eaglin (her twin), Lloyd Eaglin (Lois, his twin) and her sister Mary Vivian Tyler. Father and Mother-in-law, Paul Lavine and Selena Simmons Lavine, sons Terrell Delaney Lavine and Donald Paul Lavine, grand children Leroy Lavine, Kelesy Lavine and Terrell Delaney Lavine Willis. Son-in-law Reverend Leonard Adams. Grandparents Charles Ignatius Eaglin and Gladys Murray Eaglin and Sidney Henry and Lou Pearl Melancon.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children Henry Joseph (Barbara), Sidney (Latretha), Frederick and Johnathan Lavine all of Port Arthur, Texas. Kalton, Jr. (Nina), of Dallas, Texas, Eugene (Yolanda) of Birmingham, Alabama, Edwin of Beaumont, Texas, and Christopher Lavine of Baytown, Texas. Sophie Brocks (Daniel) of Valdosta, Georgia, and Cecilia Willis (Toby) of Port Arthur and Carolyn Alexander- Adams of Houston, Texas. Her brother Henry Eaglin (Eva) of Port Arthur and sister Elizabeth Holloway of Missouri City, Texas. Sister-in-laws Rose Eaglin of Fort Worth, Texas and Maudry Davis of Riverside, California. A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews family and friends.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday August 20, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 920 Washington Avenue Port Arthur Texas 77640, Viewing will be from 8:00 am with the Rosary stating at 9:30 am until service time.
