Bernard J. McNellis Sr.

Bernard J. McNellis Sr. SURF CITY - Bernard J. McNellis Sr., 84, of Surf City, formerly of Hamilton Square, went to his eternal resting place on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. A veteran of the Korean War who was born and raised in Trenton, Bud, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, retired to Surf City after 22 years of service with the City of Trenton Fire Department and Kucker Haney Paint Company. A devout Catholic, Bud was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, St. Gregory the Great Church of Hamilton, and, most recently, St. Thomas in Surf City, NJ. He was also a graduate of Trenton Catholic High School. Bud will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his unwavering love for his family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Lynch) McNellis; a brother, Joseph B. McNellis; sisters, Mary Silsby and Julia Commiskey, and daughter, Karen Ann McNellis. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Myrtle Britton McNellis; his children, Sharon McNellis-Kissel of Yardville, Buddy McNellis Jr. and wife, Kristin of Williamstown, NJ, and Michael P. McNellis and wife, Shauna, of Boynton Beach, FL. Bud also leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Casey and Mackenzie Kissel, Megan, Katie, Jake, Grant, and Drew McNellis; twins, Olivia and Liam McNellis, and great-grandchildren, William and Landon. Bud is also survived by very special nieces, Jeanette Johnson and Julia Gaskill; brother-in-law, William Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Beryl Britton and Ernie and Marian Schroeder, all of whom he loved as if they were his own siblings, and several other nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Hamilton. Family and friends may call Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Mullen Funeral Home, 537 S. Olden Ave., Trenton. Burial will follow in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Bud's memory to Officer Down Inc. at P.O.
