Bernardo Benavides Obituary
He was born in Council Bluffs, on October 1, 1930, to Juan and Catarina Gonzalez Benavides. Bernardo was united in marriage to Paubla DeSantiago and to this union 8 girls and 3 boys were born. Bernardo worked for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 40 plus years, on the section and also the operator of the swinging bridge. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing pool, gardening, watching boxing and family cook outs.
Bernardo is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Bernardo Jr. and Martin; 3 grandchildren and 5 sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Paubla; son, Juan (Ofelia); daughters, Rita Brannen, all of Council Bluffs, Gloria Windle (Kevin), of Sioux City, Iowa, Catarina Dale (Ronald), of Clarinda, Iowa, Judith Bennett (Michael), Angelina Shonka, Victoria Perry, Julia Santon (Peter), Teresa Clapper, all of Council Bluffs; 34 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren.
Rosary recitation Tuesday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation until 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., Queen of the Apostles Church. Father Dan Kirby, celebrant. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship will follow at Eagles Club. Family has requested that all condolences and sympathy offerings be shared at the Eagles Club.

Grandpa, It has been along year without you here, I miss and love you alot. But I'll always have those memories when I came to visit when I could. Like going camping, and fishing for hours on the boat. The times I would come over just to visit and have a beer with you. While you told me story's of when you lived in texas, working on the bridge, and take a break and go fishing, and hunting stories, im gonna miss the garden, you telling me to take a break and have a beer. And telling about when my mom grabbed you by the shirt and said 'i love you' and my dad hiding under the table. Well don't worry i still get drunk and be somebody like you always said. Dad, Its been a year today since you passed. I remember that day. I barely made it to the house to say goodbye. dear grandpa,
i miss you everyday i always look up at the sky and i know that you are in a better place. I know that you are not suffering but i wish you was still here so we can have fun again playing pool and with me and have fun at camping and going fishing. i am so glad that you are not suffering anymore and i know when its my time to go that i will be up there with you playing pool and fishing and catching all the catfish we want and just have so much fun again. everyday goes by that i wish there was a way that we could have you back just to have so more fun. i will always miss you and i will see you again someday but untill then i will care you in my heart and will never forget you. Jan 14, ma and dad's 56th anniversary. We visit dad at the cemetary and later hung out at ma's house. Even though dad wasn't there in body, we knew he was here, especially his words and sayings. It'll be a year January 29th since dad has been gone. Dad you'll always be missed and never forgotten... always cherish your love ones, you never know what life hands you.
