Bernice Lenora Booker

Bernice Lenora Booker, a long-time resident of Tyler, TX, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016, after a brief illness. Funeral services are scheduled for October 8, 2016, 1:00pm, at North Tenneha Church of Christ with Bro. Darryl Bowdre as Eulogist. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park under the direction of Brooks, Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Memorial will be held at the church prior to the homegoing service at 12:00pm.

Bernice, the daughter of the late George Henry & Willie A. Mayse, was born in Stamford, TX, and moved with her family to the Tyler area at a very early age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Booker.

Bernice, an honors graduate of Emmett Scott High School, received a BS Degree in Home Economics from Texas College and a Master of Education, from Texas A&M University Commerce. She also pursued post graduate studies at Texas A&M Commerce. An advocate for children and education, Bernice was employed by TylerISD for 40 years as an Instructor, Instructional Consultant, and Assistant Principal at T.J. Austin, Andy Woods, and Mamie G. Griffin Elementary Schools. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Mrs. Booker was a dedicated and active member of the North Tenneha Avenue Church of Christ where Bro. Kennon D. Olison, Sr. serves as Ministering Evangelist. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many.

Bernice's beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughter, Sheryl Booker Smith, and granddaughter, Deidre Mishon Smith. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
