Bernice Edwards "Burn" Howard

Howard, Bernice Edwards "Burn" She was a lifelong resident of Gonzales and a retired cook with more than 30 years of service to the Ascension Parish area. She died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 53 years old. Visitation at St. Paul Baptist Church, Gonzales, on Friday, March 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Roosevelt McMeller, pastor. Interment in the church cemetery. She leaves to cherish her precious memory a daughter, Tynika and husband Eugene Banks, Gonzales; two sons, Bertelle and Tyshelby Howard, both of Gonzales; Rodger Lane, Baton Rouge, and Kedrick Cato, Texas, whom she reared; mother, Beanna Hilliard, Geismar; five sisters, Ida and husband Emanuel Sharper, Geismar, Olivia Jackson, Baton Rouge, Rosa Hall, Gonzales, Dorothy and husband Willie Smothers, and Mary L. Gilmore, all of Baton Rouge; brother, James and wife Mazis Rowel; seven grandchildren, Bertelle Howard, Quita Scott, DeJon Howard, Ti'Yonna Simon, TyAnté Howard, Ty'Najah Banks and Jydon Young; two godchildren, Jackie R. Johnson, Gonzales, and Tess Rowel, Lafayette; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, father, grandparents, two brothers, three uncles, a great-aunt and brother-in-law.
