Bertha Pomfret

NEW YORK — Bertha (Gobeil) Pomfret, 90, of New York, formerly of New Bedford, died on August 10, 2008, at St. Catherine of Siena Nursing Home, Smithtown, N.Y. She was the wife of the late Roland Pomfret Sr., and the daughter of the late Joseph Odino and Marie Louise (Tetreault) Gobeil.

She moved from New Bedford to Smithtown, N.Y., in the year 2000. She was a former communicant of St. Anne's Church.

Mrs. Pomfret was a professional hairdresser and worked for Lamoureux Funeral Home for 40 years. She also was a member of The New Bedford Cosmetologist Association.

She is survived by her daughter, Pauline and her husband, Ronald V. Takach of Hauppauge, New York; her son, Roland Pomfret and his wife, Barbara of Naples, Florida; her sister, Claire Martin of New Bedford; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, 75 Davids Dr., Hauppauge, N.Y. 11788.

Visitation Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM, at the CABRAL BAYLIES SQUARE-LAMOUREUX FUNERAL HOME, 512 No. Front St., New Bedford. Funeral on Saturday at 8 AM, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Julie Billiart Church, Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery #2.
