Beth Scism McCoy, age 48, passed away Tuesday March 15, 2022. Born in Cleveland County on January 12, 1974, she was the daughter of the late Johnny Odus and Gay Frances Whitaker Scism. In addition to her parents, Beth is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Forrest Everette Scism and Beatrice Chapman Scism, as well as maternal grandparents, Burgin Whitaker and Elsie Mae White Whitaker. Beth was a Home Health Nurse for 20 plus years, changing the lives of numerous foster children. She will be remembered for her dedication to those children and her family.
Beth is survived by her husband of 13 years, Thomas Franklin McCoy, IV, four children, Jordan Thomas McCoy, Meleah Abigail McCoy, Colton Paul McCoy, and Isabella Rose McCoy, a brother, John Kelly Scism (Lori), mother-in-law and father-in-law, Tom and Vallery McCoy, brother-in-law, Brian McCoy (Mary) niece, Jennifer Scism Mathis (Robert), and Beth’s special cousins, Trina Whitaker Angel, Wesley Whitaker, and Brian Whitaker. Beth is also survived by her special Aunt Gwen Nix and her niece and nephew, Makenna Mitchell and Matthew McCoy.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday March 19, 2022 at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby with the Rev. Dr. Rit Varriale and Rev. Dr. Doug Hankins officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the sanctuary. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Cemetery.
