Bette Hayward Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2025.
My beautiful beloved bride of 35 years, Bette Hayward, passed away at our home into God's loving arms on the late afternoon of January 14th 2025 while surrounded by myself, her son Peter and his wife Kathy. She was 84 years old.

Her demise was unexpected 6 weeks earlier. A cancer accounted for the quick change in her health.

Among many things, Bette especially loved flowers, gardening, and the Jersey Shore. It was a special weekly treat for her to buy and arrange new flowers for our home. As a child, she summered at Stone Harbor in a house built by her father. Fortunately, she and I were able to spend Thanksgiving week at our home in Avalon one last time before we knew her demise was on the horizon. At that time, she was also able to do a walk around one of her favorite haunts, the 96th street shops in Stone Harbor and we were able to see Santa arrive in Avalon.

Born in Philadelphia, and raised in Cheltenham, she graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1957. She spent the better part of her career in a job she loved, as a stock brokerage sales assistant. She and I lived just outside Carversville for 34 years before moving to Pine Run Village in Doylestown, PA two years ago.

Daughter of the late Richard and Florence (Haydon) Klinck, Bette is survived by me, her husband of 35 years, her son Peter Wurster and his wife Kathy, her three grandchildren Peter, Lauren and Melissa, and her 3 great-grandchildren Cara, Tyler and Mackinley. She is also survived by her former spouse, Walter Wurster. She was predeceased by son Steven, and her sister, Janet Harvey.

There will be a celebration of life in May, around her birthday, when the spring flowers are in bloom. The service will be held at our church, Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Bucks County SPCA (https://buckscountyspca.org/) or Fisherman's Mark in Lambertville (https://fishermansmark.org/) For more information or to send condolences, please email [email protected]

In loving memory of my bride -

I am so very sorry to learn that Bette has passed. I am her youngest cousin, Beth Haydon Lewis, the younger daughter of Ginny snd Ken Haydon. One of my very early childhood memories was serving as a flower girl in Bette´s wedding to Walter. Bette was a very special person, much loved in my family, and my deepest sympathy is with you and her son and his family.
