Betty Bailey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2024.
Betty Hartnett Bailey UPPER Betty Hartnett Bailey, 85, beloved mother and grandmother and longtime Galveston resident, died peacefully on Monday, July 1, in Grapevine. Betty was born Sept. 3, 1938, in Houston and grew up there, graduating from Jeff Davis High School. She studied music and business at North Texas State University, where she met Jerry D. Bailey, to whom she was married for 62 years, until his death in 2023. In 1965, they moved to Galveston, where they raised two daughters and Jerry taught orchestra in the public schools. Betty spent her career at ANICO. She worked as a legal secretary early on, but soon followed her curious mind into the new field of computers, as a programmer and then a systems analyst and application manager. She also loved cooking, reading, traveling and being with her adored grandchildren. She is survived by daughters Marilyn Bailey (Robert Philpot) of Fort Worth and Sharon King (Brandon) of Coppell, and grandchildren Casey Jane King and Nicholas Bradley King. Services will be private.

Marilyn and Sharon I am so sorry to read of Betty'passing. I also did not know of your dad' passing. I had the distinct pleasure of working with both of them. Your dad when I was a math teacher at Ball High and your mom when I was in computing area at ANICO. In fact your dad told me of the training program and your mom put in a good word for me with the training coordinator. They were wonderful people.
