Betty J. Croft-Casey 93, of Stockton, CA, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2022.

Betty was born on February 9, 1929, to Otis and Edith Elrod in Orosi, CA. She had four siblings, Floreine Dougherty, Raymond Elrod, Lawrence Elrod and Helen Arkley. Betty graduated from Orosi High School in 1947. In 1949, Betty married Philip E. Croft in Kingsburg and they had two children, Barbara and Walter. The family moved to Modesto, CA in 1963 where they lived for many years.

Betty completed her college education in 1969 at California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, CA. She enjoyed teaching and used her Speech Pathology degree as a Speech Therapist and Special Education Teacher for the Stanislaus County School District. After retiring from the County, Betty continued her educational calling in Amador County and for the San Joaquin County United Cerebral Palsy Association; teaching into her 80s.

Betty loved spending time with family and friends. Her interest in others and contagious smile brightened the lives of everyone she met. She enjoyed living in Modesto and in the High Sierras, as well as traveling, gardening, skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities. Her pets held a special place in her heart. You could always find one of her cats or dogs by her side. She was active in animal welfare, wildlife and other political causes.

In 1999, Betty married Patrick J. Casey of Modesto, CA. They lived happily together in their Stockton home until the time of her passing.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Otis and Edith Elrod, her siblings, her husband Phil and stepdaughter Corrine Casey. She is survived by her children, Barbara Croft, Walter Croft and spouse Debbie, her second husband Patrick Casey, and stepsons Sean and Brendan Casey.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Delta Humane Society SPCA of San Joaquin County, an organization Betty supported.
