Betty Jean Tahaney Edwards was born December 9, 1924 in San Francisco, California, to John and Muriel Tahaney. She passed away from a short illness on August 6, 2014 in San Diego, California. Betty Jean, better known as BJ, loved her Irish heritage and was proud of being a fourth generation Californian. BJ retired from San Jose to Redding, CA with her husband Jack in 1987. She enjoyed their retirement years being active in their church, the RV club, the Elks, members of Riverview Country Club, and volunteering at Mercy Hospital. BJ never met a stranger, she loved socializing and meeting new people, she was a gracious hostess, and an avid bridge player. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her son John (Mary) of Pella, Iowa and her daughter Kathleen of San Diego. She has five grandchildren Josh (Tristen), Holly (Andy), Michael (Casey), Daniel and Shannon and two great grandchildren Jackson and Jensen. She will be missed by all who were honored to call her family and friend. She will be interned with her husband Jack, a 24 year Navy veteran, at Ft Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
