Betty Harlow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 11 to Feb. 12, 2023.
Betty Ryan Harlow, of

Chester, MD passed away peacefully at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC on February 4, 2023 , when she was called to her eternal, Heavenly home.

Born Betty Patricia Ryan on

December 7, 1940, in Washington, DC, she was the only child born to

Garland Keith Ryan and

Frances Evelyn Leach Ryan.

Betty graduated in 1958 from

Anna Burdick Vocational School in Washington, DC.

Like her father, who was a Brick Mason, Betty worked in the construction industry for the majority of her career. Betty not only excelled in her role as a Logistics Coordinator with Long Masonry in Northern Virginia, she was revered as a strong leader among her peers.

Betty proudly loved to share that her father's very own hands played an integral role in the construction of the Washington National Cathedral.

Always the life of the party, Betty had a fantastic sense of humor with a larger-than- life presence that will never be forgotten.

Most notably, Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. If you were fortunate enough to call her your friend, you knew you had a friend for life.

Affectionately referred to as "Granny" by her family and many "adopted" kids and grandkids, Betty was

kind and compassionate, always quick to extend an encouraging word or gesture, especially to those hurting or in need. She never met a stranger.

Betty was a breast cancer survivor, giving inspiration and hope to others fighting the dreadful disease.

Betty often spoke fondly of trips to her favorite place on earth, Hawaii, and how she always felt at peace there.

She was a Toby Keith music fan and had an avid interest in British mystery novels and movies.

Betty enjoyed attending Sunday services at Centenary United Methodist Church in Shady Side, MD.

Betty was preceded in death by both parents, husband, Barron "Gordon" Harlow, and her youngest son,

Patrick Keith Snowden.

She is survived by her son,

Michael Wayne Snowden (Tracey) of Chapin, SC,

six Grandchildren-

Ashleigh Snowden of Manassas, VA,

Justin Snowden (Katelyn Cannon) of Easley, SC,

Annabelle Snowden (Michael Denton) of Chapin, SC

Tyler Snowden (Dane Graham) of Candler, NC

Patrick Snowden of Baltimore, MD,

Dustin Snowden of Baltimore, MD and

one great grandson,

Colton Michael Denton "Colt" of Chapin, SC.

Lifelong friends, who Betty always considered family, are Marie Del Piano Blanton of Conover, NC and

Mary Blanton Delwiche of Denver, NC.

The family would also like to acknowledge Betty's closest friend and roommate, Linda Magayna and her family, of Chester, MD.

Betty "Granny" Harlow will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

I knew Betty because she was my mom's best friend of many many years. She was one of a kind and I will certainly miss her so much

She was my second mom. There every day of my life and always when I needed her. Her family is my family. She always made it that way. I will miss her the rest of my days. Rest easy sweet Aunt Betty.
