Betty Buhr Kampschroeder

Betty Buhr Kampschroeder passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, following a long and courageous battle with cancer, with her loving husband of more than 50 years by her side. Betty was born Jan. 22, 1947, in Washington, the daughter of Frank and Frances Buhr.

Betty's life was devoted to her church, her family, her friends and service to others. For many years, she was a volunteer assistant at St. Mary's Health Center at 412 Ann Street. She also was a successful and respected real estate broker. Betty was an avid gardener, a gourmet cook, a wonderful decorator and seamstress, an avid reader and a lover of music. She especially enjoyed game nights with family and friends, and she loved to travel. But most of all, Betty was a caring, adoring grandmother to her 10 beloved grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband, Edward Kampschroeder; two daughters, Shelly Szakasits (Frank), and Stefanie Buric (Marcus); two sons, Todd (Amy), and Brian (Emily); and her grandchildren, Lindsey and Samantha Szakasits, Isabel and Seth Buric, Abby and Jacob Kampschroeder, and Gracie, Zach, Ben and Sam Kampschroeder.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 3, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 207 S. Lumina at Wrightsville Beach, N.C., with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating.
