Betty Maddox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2017.
Betty Jean Murphy Maddox, age 80, passed away on January 15, 2017. Betty was born to Marvin Eugene Murphy and Alyne Passmore Murphy in San Augustine County, Texas on June 20, 1936. She is a descendent of Alexander Horton, who was the Aid-de-Camp of General Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto. Betty met James Willie "J.W." Maddox in 1953, graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School on June 2, 1954 and married J.W. on June 26. Betty attended the Southwestern Business University in downtown Houston where she mastered Gregg Shorthand. Betty worked as an executive secretary for Jack Roach Ford by playing the piano in the mornings and taking shorthand notes during meetings for accurate, rapid transcription. Betty also taught piano and organ lessons at home while being a housewife and mother. Along with her passion for piano, she enjoyed her dogs, camping, and sports (especially baseball and football). J.W. passed away on March 16, 2011. Betty was a faithful member of the Northwest Church of Christ. Survivors include son Bradley Wread Maddox and girlfriend, Babette McMullen; numerous cousins, other family members, church family, and fellow officers. Special thanks and appreciation to all members of Northwest Church of Christ, neighbors Fabian and Dawn Heaney, and Noe and Sandy Espinosa. Visitation will be from 9:30a.m. until 11:30a.m., Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Pat H. Foley & Company, Brother Jim J. Middleton officiating. The service begins at 11:30 with interment following at the Memorial Oaks Cemetery, Houston, Texas.

Hi Brad. You may not remember me but we played baseball together at Candle Light Park. I have fond memories of your mother and father. They are now at peace with God. Accept my personal condolences on the loss of your mother. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Mrs. Maddox will always be in our hearts and we cherish every laugh and talk we have ever shared with her. Her spunk and wit will definitely be missed in the circle. So glad we were able to grow up as young adults with The Maddox family as our role models. Classy and most talented lady. Love always.

I am so sorry for the lost of Aunt Betty. I will always have fond memories when I used to take AJ, when he was little, to visit her and all our family gatherings. I love you both so much and am here if you ever need anything.
