Betty May Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 28, 2022.

Betty (Conrad) May, age 93, of Ft. Seybert, WV, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022, at Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg, WV. She was born on February 14, 1929, at Ft. Seybert, WV, the daughter of the late John Emory and Nora (Dunkle) Conrad. On April 28, 1950, Betty married Durwood Earl May, who preceded her in death on August 22, 2021.

Mrs. May was a 1946 graduate of Franklin High School, where she was the Salutatorian of her graduating class. She worked on the family farm with her husband and retired in 1996 after working for 28 years as a deputy clerk for the Pendleton County Clerk's Office. Betty was a lifelong member of Fairview Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was an organist for over 70 years. She was also a member of the Fairview Bethel United Methodist Women and served as Treasurer for many years. Mrs. May served as one of the original trustees and a long time secretary of the Fairview Cemetery Association.

Betty loved music, reading, and family history. She had an excellent memory, especially for people's names and family connections.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory: her daughter, Beth May of Ft. Seybert, WV; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: a son, John Franklin May January 14, 2008); a sister, Mary Ann Ours; and a cousin who was like a brother, Maurice D. Ruddle.

Friends may pay their respects at Basagic Funeral Home on Thursday after 9:00 AM.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Fairview Cemetery in Ft. Beth, our deepest sympathy. Your mother was very patient with me when I took piano lessons from her even when she knew I would rather playing in the river.
