Betty Osborne Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 5, 2025.
Betty Jean Osborne, born January 16, 1947, in Meridian, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, in Reno, Nevada, in the loving arms of her husband of 59 years, James (Jim) Osborne.

A proud fifth-generation Nevadan, Betty was the daughter of Johnny Sellers and Marilyn Nadine Chiantelli. Her family roots trace back to the Pioneer Marker family who settled in the Lovelock Valley in the 1800s. Betty moved to Lovelock as a child and attended Fairview County School and Lovelock public schools before relocating to Sparks in 1961. She graduated from Sparks High School in 1965 and married Jim Osborne on June 16 of that same year.

Betty built a successful career managing operations at Pacific Freeport before joining the University of Nevada, Reno. There, she served as an administrative assistant and event coordinator for Alumni Hall. She later transitioned into semi-retirement, continuing part-time work while embracing more time with family and friends.

Betty and Jim shared a love for camping, traveling, and golfing often taking cross-country trips to Pennsylvania with their granddaughter Mackenzie Ray. She found joy in reading, crocheting blankets for Casa de Vida and the Children's Cabinet, assembling puzzles, and hosting Sunday dinners for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Judy Rumbaugh Sellers (Dennis) of Reno; and her stepmother Adell Harris (Ozzy) of Lovelock.

Betty is survived by her husband Jim; son Cliff Osborne (Rosa) of Sparks; daughter Jennifer Osborne Ray of Reno; grandchildren Mackenzie Ray, Blake Ray (Alissa), Timothy Osborne, and Samantha Osborne; great-grandchildren Westlyn Ray, Mason Ray (Martinez), Waylon Ray, Avery Martinez, and Miley Jo Jean Ray. She is also survived by stepsisters Ann Mitchell, Cyndy Arnold (Brett), Pam Golly (Bill), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on June 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at 11635 Juniper St., Reno, NV 89506. Please RSVP via message or text to Jennifer Osborne Ray at 775-846-7335.
