Betty Nan Landrum Pruitt, formerly of Lufkin and Wimberley, died June 2, 2015, in San Marcos, Texas. Betty was born August 25, 1925, in Waco, Texas, to Thomas Howell and Lou Ellen Rountree Landrum. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Lamar High School in 1942. Two years later she married Dr. Jack Pruitt, and they had three children, a son and two daughters. They lived in San Angelo and McAllen before returning to Houston so that Jack could finish his medical residency in pathology. In 1954 they moved to Lufkin, where he practiced pathology until his death in 1982. In Lufkin, Betty was active in the First United Methodist Church, the Angelina Medical Auxiliary, and the Rotary Anns, and she served as an elected member of the Board of Trustees of Angelina College for eighteen years. After earning bachelor's and master's degrees in nutrition (summa cum laude) from Stephen F. Austin State University, she worked as a registered dietitian, first in private practice, and then for Stephen F. Austin. In 1995, Betty moved from Lufkin to Wimberley, where she made many close friends over the next ten years. She moved to San Marcos in 2005, and lived at the Regent Care Center at the time of her death. Betty is survived by her son, Dr. Brian Pruitt and wife, Joann, of Amarillo; daughter Marilyn Duncan and husband Steve, of Round Rock; daughter Luanne Cullen and husband Jim, of San Marcos; grandchildren Julie Nixon and husband Daryl, Leah Smalley and husband Josh, and Jill Pruitt; great-grandchildren Avery and Alyssa Nixon, Isaac and Caleb St. Peter, and Jacob Smalley; and brother, John Watts and wife Claudia of League City. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos. Burial will be at the Laneville Cemetery in Laneville, Texas. To Brian, Mimi and Luanne - I am so saddened to learn of your Mother's death. She was such a sweet lady and a good friend. You may not remember me but I was your Dad's transcriptionist at Memorial Hospital then later office manager at the clinic for five years. They were two of the finest people I have known. I kept up with your Mother through Dr. James Bruce - after the death of my husband, I returned to work at Woodland Heights and was transcriptionist to Dr. Bruce (who I met when he first came to Lufkin - at your Dad's clinic). God Bless Each and you and your families. Sincerest Regards.
