Betty Ramey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2024.
Betty Ann Ramey (née Pickett), affectionately known as MaMaw, passed away on October 13, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 83. Born on April 1, 1941, in Shongaloo, Louisiana.

Betty was our cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Even though this has left a huge hole in our hearts, we are filling them with so many memories and thoughts of her countless caring/ selfless acts. We love you Mom/MaMaw!

Betty was an absolute one of a kind person and will always be remembered for her wise, sweet, and giving nature. Treasured for her love of and dedication to her family she also enjoyed arts and crafts, trips to play the slots with her sister, her wonderful cooking, those legendary mashed potatoes and beating us constantly at scrabble.

She dedicated herself to helping others and was always ready to lend a helpinig hand. She never missed celebrating a birthday or holiday by sending cards and gifts, without fail. She was devoted to raising her children and grandchildren with love and acceptance, no matter what.

Betty was a constant pillar of support and nurturing to her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she helped raise with the same dedication and grace she showed her own children. She was the family buoy and the reliable person to which we could always turn to for support, advice and a determination to never let someone fall. She was our rock!

She is survived by her children, Jeannie Rene Varuso and Robert "Bobby" Ramey; her grandchildren, Alan, Daniel, Joshua, Tiffany, Hannah & Nicolas ; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Savannah, and Olivia and Caroline. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Nettie and Robert Pickett; siblings, Leroy Pickett, Howard Pickett, Marie White, Daphne Martin.

Betty will be laid to rest, alongside her siblings, in a graveside service on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Park, located at 601 US Highway 80 East, Haughton, LA 71037. The service will be a time for family, friends, and loved ones to gather and remember her enduring spirit and loving heart. A celebration of life will follow at a location TBD.

Contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society in Betty's memory. This gesture will continue her legacy of giving and supporting others in need.

The family extends their gratitude to Hill Crest Memorial Park and Rose Neath Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance during this time. Mom's kindness, wisdom and love filled nurturing spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
