Betty Ruth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 17, 2024.
First Lady Betty Jean Ruth, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was surrounded by her loving family as she transitioned to her heavenly home to be with the Lord.

Born on June 30, 1947, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Betty was the daughter of the late Emanuel Burrell Jr. and Lula Grimes Burrell. She graduated with pride from Scotlandville Senior High School's Class of 1965 and went on to enjoy a fulfilling career with City National Bank, Whitney Bank, Merrill Lynch, and the Louisiana State Department of Revenue.

Betty's faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of Oak Grove Christian Center Church, she lived her life guided by her spiritual beliefs. She found immense joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Betty also had a passion for interior decorating, vacationing, and preparing her favorite meals.

She is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-three years, Bishop Oren Ruth Sr.; her son, Oren Ruth Jr. (Candice) of Brandon, Mississippi; her daughter, Vanita Dionne Ruth of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and two grandsons, Oren Ruth III (Trace) and Paxton Myles Ruth. Betty is also survived by three sisters: Lula B. Bailey and Linda B. Williams (Alfred), both of Baton Rouge; Audrey B. Robertson (Larry) of Denison, Texas; one brother, Noah L. Burrell (Helen) of Baton Rouge; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held at Oak Grove Christian Center Church, 8755 Port Hudson-Pride Road in Zachary, Louisiana, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by religious services at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bishop Oren Ruth Sr. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge.

Services are entrusted to Charles Mackey Funeral Home. May Betty's memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

In loving memory of a Sister-In-law that will be truly missed. Betty has been in my life for 64 years. Even while being ill she always had comforting words to say. I am going to miss our weekly talks. But for now rest in peace my Sis.
