Betty Seed Woellner, a beloved resident of Athens, OH, passed away on September 7, 2022, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens, with her loving daughter, Kelsey Woellner Gaughan, by her side. She was born on January 20, 1954, in Highland Park, IL. Betty's life was a testament to the power of compassion, as she dedicated her career to helping others as a Substance Abuse Counselor.

Betty's educational pursuit led her to earn her CCDC III-E in 1985 and became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counsler (LICDC) in May 2007, equipping her with the knowledge and skills necessary for her impactful work in the counseling industry. She dedicated her life to public service in Athens County & passionately served countless individuals, offering support, guidance, and hope to those battling addiction. Betty's dedication to her profession was exemplified by her 20 tenure at Health Recovery Services and 6 years at My Sisters Place, where she worked tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of her clients.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Betty's true joy in life was derived from the love she shared with her daughter, Kelsey Gaughan. Their bond was unbreakable, a testament to the unconditional love and support they provided for one another. Betty was a beacon of light, always offering encouragement and promoting personal growth. Her memory will forever be cherished by Kelsey and all who knew and loved her.

In honoring Betty's wishes, her earthly remains have been entrusted to the compassionate care of cremation by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.

The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Betty's memory to the Athens County Democratic Party. This gesture will not only honor Betty's commitment to advocacy and social justice but also contribute to causes she held dear. Those who choose to send flowers may have them delivered to the funeral home on the day of service.

To celebrate Betty's life and the profound impact she had on those around her, a memorial service will be held on September 7, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Hughes Moquin Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to join Kelsey in paying tribute to her remarkable mother. This gathering will be an opportunity to share stories, reflect, and find solace in the support of loved ones.

Following the memorial service, there will be a burial ceremony at Union Street Cemetery, where the ashes of Betty and her late husband, Bill Woellner III, will be respectfully interred.

Betty Seed Woellner will forever be remembered as a compassionate counselor, a loving mother, devoted wife, and a cherished friend. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and strength will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her. Friends and family are encouraged to write a note of condolence at the funeral home website, www.hughesmoquinfuneralhome.com.

Although we have not crossed paths for at least 20 years, my vision of Betty will always be as a passionate crusader for healing, a mother completely in love with her daughter, and a compassionate soul who was willing to search for goodness in the most distressing circumstances. When she visited with my various class of teachers and (future teachers) over the years, she gifted her listeners with great insight on how to improve the lives of their troubled students. Thank you Betty, and deep condolences to Kelsey.
