Beverley ABBOTT Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal from Sep. 29 to Oct. 1, 2016.
ABBOTT, Beverley
A Beautiful Soul
On September 20, 2016, I said good bye to my eternal love. Beverley is survived by me, her husband John.
Beverley was born on November 27, 1960 to her loving parents Bev and Ruth Abbott.
If you asked Beverley about her early years she would say she was an academic underachiever. Her focus was on friendships, fun and attending Alice Cooper concerts (giving her parents some sleepless nights). Youthful adventures aside, Beverley developed a global consciousness. The earnings from her first job at the Bell High School Arena went to World Visions to adopt a child. We now have six children through this program.
Throughout her life, Beverley always gave of herself and this beautiful characteristic would go on to define how she lived.
In her teen years she volunteered at Christie Lake Boys Camp, a camp for impoverished boys with behavioural issues. Despite the challenges, Beverley returned for a second year which was notably uncommon and greatly appreciated by the camp director.
Beverley received her Bachelor of Social Work and Masters of Counselling. Her career began in addictions working at Henwood. Along with her colleague Donna Kerr, they developed the women's program specifically designed to address the needs of women and addictions. This concept was groundbreaking and required a lot of advocacy on their part.
The next phase of Beverley's career was counselling people through the Employee Assistance Program. She approached each person and their struggle with professionalism and respect. As Beverley would say, "Insight without behavioural change is meaningless", and she devoted herself to helping people make meaningful changes.
Serendipity brought Beverley and I together. We had 35 years with each other that went much too fast. Beverley's love of life, sense of adventure and ability to connect with people brightened everyone's world.
Beverley always appreciated the things in life people tend to take for granted – every deer that visited our acreage, birds at our feeder, anything chocolate, a good cup of tea, Friday night with friends, talking with her nephews and their partners on a Sunday afternoon.
Beverley felt a strong connection to butterflies. Whenever you see one, think of her. If you listen with your heart you'll hear all her love around you soft and clear. She will always be with those of us who were privileged to know her.
Thank you to family and friends, Foyer Lacombe Hospice and Dr. Dusang.
There will be a Celebration of Beverley's life in the spring.

John,
I am so sorry to just now discover the news of Beverly's passing 3 years later. I am at a loss for words. I very often think of you and Beverly and how much I looked forward to when you coming for your haircuts, both at my salon, then in my home. I have yet to meet people as beautiful inside and out as you two! To be without that absolutely brilliant ray of sunshine is no doubt devastating. I know she is with you...I can hear her contagious laugh whenever you teased her...she loves you so much...to this day. The love that exuded from both of you was a blessing to see. I can feel her energy right now, proof that there is no ending of our souls when we pass from one form to another. Beverly hasn't left your side, not for a moment. She's alive and well in spirit and walks, rides and sits with you wherever you are. May her memory and life forever be a blessing and source of comfort in your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. I will always remember her... a happy, loving and beautiful earth angel. Many blessings,. Jacquie Dziwenko

Dear John, I was one of Beverley's clients and I just discovered that she has passed as I intended to meet with her for counselling. I had not seen her for several years. She provided me so much support over the years. She had such a positive impact on my life. When my web search found an obituary for Beverley, I feared that it was for my Beverley Abbott and I was so saddened to see that it was. I saw her picture and I was so sad that I would not ever be able to see her again in person and to talk to her and to have her support. her support meant so much to me. I am so deeply saddened. I cannot imagine the loss of Beverley to you as she was such a big part of your life and only a tiny part of my life. I offer you my condolences for your loss and want you to know just how important Beverley was to me and what a great person that I thought she was. I will really miss her.

People like her saved my life. Without the love of her and the fellow angels saving the troubled and lost (like I was), I wouldn't have found hope. She has left a legacy and I hope knowing that she saved lives brings you comfort.
My condolences sir.

Dear John, on this night, Bev' s birthday, I'm thinking of you both, missing as you must, Beverley's remarkable passion for life, her infectious laugh, her quick delight. I feel very fortunate to have spent so much of my youth with Bev, to have known the two of you together, and to have continued our friendship for so many years. Beverley was so fortunate in so many ways for all the beautiful people she attracted and brought into her life. I'm so happy for this and I hope so much that you take some solace in this simple fact. Sending you love ❤

Dear John,
We are deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Beverley. She touched our family's life a number of years ago and was a contributing factor in keeping us whole. She was caring, compassionate and generous and a all round wonderful person. May your memories keep you at this difficult time. We are very saddened by her passing... the world has lost one of it's healers. We would love to take part in the ceremony in the spring and honor Beverley who was near and dear to our hearts. In the meantime when ever we see a butterfly...we will think of her!

To John and all family and friends of Beverley. It is with deep sorrow that I have come upon the news of Beverley's passing. I have know for sometime that she was ill as I would see her regularly at my work place for counseling. I consider Beverley a friend even though our relationship was on a professional level. Beverley has helped myself and my family so much over the years words cannot fill my gratitude towards her for this. Had I been able to access her address I would have come to see her or dropped off a card and some flowers. We had many laughs together and I think of her often. Splendid job on her obituary . When ever I see a butterfly I will think of her. Sincerely yours Tim Forster

Beverley is one of the rare people who if we are lucky, come into our life and make our sense of being stronger, more passionate and makes one a better person just for knowing her. She gave with her heart, without judgement and with love. I feel so honoured to have known Beverley and to have met you too John. Your love for one another and your joy in being together is inspirational. I know that Beverley will never be far away and we will all hold her dear in our hearts.

I too am a stranger who has now read this Obituary two days in a row, and so wishing that I would have met and known Bev, in person. This notice is so inspiring for others to read of a life dedicated to service to others, to adopted children, to those who needed someone to listen to them, hear their plea, and assist in positive change. Bev, you have lived a gracious and beautiful life...Rest in Comfort.

I was so sorry and sad to hear of Bev being sick. I remember being a kid when you guys came out to our acreage to visit and we turned figure skating on the TV. John muted it and did the commentary himself which was so funny, but I remember Bevs laugh so well from that night. You always made her laugh so hard and her laugh was infectious. I will always remember Bev as being the kindness soul. When I went through my own hard time she reached out to me and let me know she cared. My thoughts and condolences go out to you John and all your family.

I was so sorry to hear of Bev's passing. I knew her for over 10 years and her true kindness and insight were gifts in themselves. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and she always had a smile to share with everyone she met. I truly hope you find comfort, John, knowing how many people's lives she touched and all the wonderful memories you two shared over the last 35 years. Take care.

Hi John, Dianne told us tonight about Beverley's passing, and it touched our heart when we read the announcement. There are no words to say how deeply sorry we feel in the loss of your wife and all the years you had together and what it is now for you. We care and send you our love. From what you wrote,
Beverley gave so much to those in need and is and will always be eternally, an angel that is giving in a deeper level to all that she shines her light on.
