Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2016.
Beverly Hidy went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Hazel Barnes and sister, Patricia Babb. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James O. 'Jim' Hidy Jr., son James 'Trey' Hidy, III and wife Lori; daughter Tina Barber and her husband COL Joseph Barber III. She will also be greatly missed by grandchildren Avalon, Cortni, Trevor and Sheridan. She is also survived by her twin sister Barbara Lutz and younger sister Virginia Gates and her husband Roger and numerous nieces and nephews. Beverly was a survivor. She battled cancer for more than 25 years. She survived breast cancer, kidney cancer, and two bouts of lung cancer. She lost the third round of lung cancer. Beverly touched many lives through her volunteerism. When her son, Trey, and daughter, Tina, were in school she served as room mother and was active In PTA. She was their Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader enjoying the campouts, crafts and helping them earn their badges. Beverly chaperoned the Miss Rodeo Texas pageant for several years when it was held in San Antonio. She co-chaired the Snugglebun booth at NIOSA for 20 years. She volunteered at the Institute of Texan Cultures for several years before being hired as the ITC Volunteer Coordinator. Beverly and husband Jim loved to travel. When the kids were young they spent vacations on camping trips and at Port Aransas. Beverly enjoyed playing the slots so they went to Las Vegas frequently. After retirement, they took many RV trips and more than thirty cruises meeting and making many lifelong friends along the way. Beverly made a scrapbook of each of their trips. She also loved to go fishing, usually catching the biggest fish on every trip. Beverly played in a monthly Bunco club with friends for 45 years. She also enjoyed the monthly luncheon with the Jefferson High School Class of '56 girls. Beverly always had a smile and kind words for everyone. She was loving and caring, concerned and helpful. She was a second mom to her children's friends. She was a loving wife and helpmate for 56 years and took pride in spoiling her husband. She leaves behind many friends. SERVICE FRIDAY DECEMBER 2, 2016 11:00 A.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

With deepest sympathy we send our love and prayers for your precious family. Beverly was such a kind and beautiful lady who on numerous occasions welcomed me, a once very shy and insecure college student, into her home and made me feel like family. I am so grateful for that time. Much love and blessings always to all of you.

Back in 1980, when I was a new volunteer at The Institute of Texan Cultures, Bonnie Truax sent me on one of my first outreach visits to a school with experienced volunteer, Beverly Hidy. She told me, "You are going to like working with Beverly. She loves LIFE." I found those words to be true. She gave me a great introduction to the ITC Outreach Program as I observed her presenting the Indians in Texas program. Beverly helped everyone feel comfortable in her presence. She was so warm, caring, giving and FUNNY. What a perfect team she and Sally Wiskemann were in Volunteer Programs when Beverly became an ITC staff person. The volunteers and fellow staff loved her upbeat but down to earth personality. She showed interest in each person she encountered in special ways. And she was also pretty! I miss the sound of her voice and her great laugh, but I am so glad I had the chance to know her. RIP, Beverly.

This is hard to write because there is so much to share. I am Beverly & Barbara's younger sister by 4 years, almost to the day. I got married in San Antonio when I was 19, moved to California, and came back to San Antonio every 2 years to visit. Each time I came I felt like I had never left, even with the distance the three of us were close. Beverly & I shared a room from time to time because Patti & Barbara had more in common. I remember those times sweetly with Beverly being such a loving sister. Later in life when Beverly was looking for a wedding dress, my Dad said we'd better pick out one we both liked because I was going to use it also (turns out so did Barbara, and a friend of their's from college...after that I lost track). She was married on Oct 28,1960 and I was married on Oct 26,1961, even our first child was born 3-months apart. Many things in our lives have been the same. I am not there, much to my regret, because I too have health problems and the doctor would not let me fly. I told Barbara to hold a spot next to her because I am there in Spirit. My love to Butch, Jimmy, Trey, and Tina--I am praying for the "peace that passes all understanding" for all of you. Love Ginger

Thought's and Prayers to the Hidy Family. Beverly was always so pleasant to visit. She lived an amazing life as a Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. So many of us are simply better persons simply for just knowing her. Peace be with you Mom.

Beverly always had a smile on her face! Working with her at ITC she was always cheerful, happy, and a joy to be around. I loved hearing her news about Tina, Trey and Jim and all their adventures. She will be missed by her many friends. Rest in Peace dear lady.

Beverly was a great friend when we first moved to San Antonio in 1970. Our husbands and sons became friends through the YMCA Indian Guide program. We began doing family things together and soon had two other families join us. It was the Hidy's, Fly's, Long's and Tatman's. What fun we had. We had the pleasure of visiting Mrs Barnes in Kerrville on weekends away from San Antonio and also a fun holiday weekend trip to Port Aransas. We both moved out of Colonies North and our children were then in different schools and activities but we always kept in touch at Christmas time. Was so shocked to learn of her passing. She'll be greatly missed by all. Pat and Wayne Tatman, Corpus Christi, TX

We met Beverly and Jim on a cruise in 1998. Since then the four of us have been on 16 cruises, including one in Feb., 2016. Three times with them to Niagra Falls, Canada. Once to Las Vegas and twice we traveled to San Antonio very quality visits. We have many wonderful memoies and lots of pictures. We thank God for having put them in our lives. Good Friends last forever.

Beverly is synonymous with family, friend and people person - a person who took care of people. She was innovative (though I think she might have been surprised at this description because I don't think she saw herself this way,) caring and always supportive. This is a lot to lose, but she will live on in our minds and hearts.

Beverly was a cherished member of the lunch group of the "Jeff Girls of l956". Even though she wasn't
strong & feeling up to her usual self, she still came. The November lunch will be remembered by all
because Beverly was there to share her friendship, smile, & to reassure us she was doing okey. She
certainly will be missed. In heaven she is breathing perfectly & will be our guardian angel.

It was always a delight to see Beverly at our Northside Lions social events. Her beautiful smile brought joy to all who were privileged to meet her. A very courageous lady, Beverly left this world a better place because of her love and her fight.

Ah, Beverly.... Loyal, creative, smart, and caring, she was the ray of sunshine and a never-ending source of common sense in the Institute's volunteer office. Beverly was one of my very favorite friends, and we enjoyed regaling each other with our children's escapades as they journeyed through their teens. How sad is my heart today.

I will miss my "Favorite Friend" of over 55 years. Beverly, Butch and I were roommates at Tech all those years ago and remained friends, altho' we never lived in the same city. She was an inspiration to me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer 8 years ago - I know of no other person who survived THREE diagnoses of cancer, and with such dignity and courage. Love you always. Bitsy Murchison
