We at the California Hepatitis C Task Force are remembering one of the founding board members of the National Association of Hepatitis Task Forces today, Beverly Merrick. As our friend of those that suffered health conditions and injustices in the world, she was a true champion. Whether it was for human rights, civil rights, animal rights, reducing health disparities or the rights of women, she went beyond the limits to become a voice of reason. We are thankful for her wonderfully selfless contribution as a voice for patient advocacy. Beverly will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Our condolences to her family and friends.

My sympathies on your loss. I enjoyed getting to know Beverly when she was at New Mexico State University and we were in Press Women together. I also remember hearing her lovely singing voice at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Las Cruces. Wishing you peace and consolation from many good memories in your time of grief.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family for the loss of your mother, sister, aunt and grandma. I had the pleasure of knowing Beverly when I ventured to the Middle East and took up an appointment as Assis Professor at UAE University in Al Ain. Beverly was the first person I met and was drawn towards on Day 1 of our orientation week. From that day onwards we became very close friends. What fun and laughter we shared. But then...When I heard of your passing Bev, I was in utter shock, disbelief and overwhelmed with grief... your zest for life was infectious. The stories of your upbringing, the people and land you lived and survived upon were courageous recounts - your poems reflected those moments. I shall never forget you and the many gifts you gave me and my children Bev. Thank you for being a true friend. God bless your family....and Beverly, keep smiling dear friend God has blessed you. Love and miss you. Dr Lavinia Tamarua (Auckland, New Zealand)

Paul Jaramillo to Beverly G. Merrick

This is very sad news, Beverly G. Merrick, was the one person who always gave me encouragement and support when nobody else would at New Mexico State University. It was my wish to see her again, but my lack of money left me with no chance to do so. But I believe in God and I will see her again one day, in the kingdom of Jesus Christ. God bless her and her family, she was a person with limitless energy and always wanting to keep learning about the world around her. She was so much like me and she will always be by my side, telling me, how much faith she has in me. Again God bless you all and this wonderful woman, of many talents and interests. Now in heaven, she will have no limits, in what she will learn in the kingdom of heaven.

We are very sorry for your loss. Beverly purchased her big Victorian house on 13th St. from our family in 2010. Her love of literature and history was very evident, especially the history of our nation. That house definitely has a "soul" and she really understood that. God be with your family.
