Clinton Mississippi – Bill Dodd, passed away June 14, 2014 after a battle with lung cancer. He was 87 years old. He was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family at his bedside.
Bill was born May 7, 1927 to the late Tom A. and Flonnie Matthews Dodd, and Stepmother, Nettie Dodd.
He was an avid sports lover, hunter, and fisherman. Bill was a die-hard fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was an unpaid recruiter for Bear Bryant.
Bill was a member of Park Forest Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served as an usher and helped with community events for the church. In recent years, he attended Pinelake church, in Clinton, Mississippi.
Beloved husband, father, papaw, brother and uncle, Bill will always be remembered for his selfless devotion to those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Page Dodd of Hazen, AR. Also survived by two children, daughter Sherry Dodd Bobo (husband,Tommy Bobo, deceased) and son Alan Dodd (wife, Judy Dodd). Brothers, Gaylon J. Dodd (Charlotte), Jimmy Dodd (Annette), Grand children, Thomas Bobo (Lori), Mary Bobo Fisher (Mark), Crissie Dodd, Justin Dodd (Holly). Great grandchildren, Shelbi Bobo Linnell, Tommy Bobo, Graham Bobo, Lauren Fisher, Brees Dodd, and Zephyr Dodd. Great great grandchild, John Calaeb Linnell.
Preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Theodore Dodd, Letha Dodd, Leon Dodd, Velma Dodd Dickinson, James Dodd, Audrice Dodd, Mary Lois Smothers, Geneval (Dot) Wilkerson, Wayne Dodd, Tommie Lou Lowman, Stepbrothers and stepsisters, Odell Barnett, R. C. Barnett, and Betty Brand.
Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, also at the funeral home with the Rev. Hart Moore (brother-in-law) officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, Jackson, MS.
