Billie Bob Newsom

Billie "Bob" Newsom passed from the loving arms of his family into the loving arms of his Savior, Sunday, October 09, 2016.

He was born in Geneva County, Alabama in 1927; one of seven children born to Bud and Dosia Newsom. A member of that "great" generation who proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from Bell South after 371/2 years of dedicated service. He was from that generation whose "word was his bond, and the deal was sealed with a hand shake".

He met and married the love of his life, Joy, in 1968. He was the most loving, caring and generous husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.

He was pre-deceased by his parents; son, Robert Melvin Newsom; his brothers, Pete, Haward and Joe Newsom; his sisters, Genell and Hazel Brunson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joy Martin Newsom; step-sons, Stephen (Tina) Hunt and Alan Hunt; granddaughter, Stephanie Hunt; great grand-children, Stephen C. Hunt, Sabrina Coates, J.J. Hunt and Colton W. Lowery; his sister, Mae Rose Stone; sister-in-law, Virginia G. Newsom; his brother-in-law, Frank B. Martin (Anne); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Special thanks to Emerald Coast Hospice, who provided such special, loving care; to Dr. David Shepard who took care of Bob for many years; and to family friend, Jelynn Sweeney, who put aside her life to help us take care of Bob.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a contribution to the charity of your choice in memory of Bob.

Every girl dreams of her "Knight on a white horse". I found mine in Bob. Go gently into that dark night...my sweet gentle man.
