Billy Cohen-Vaughan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 16, 2014.

Billy Wayne Cohen-Vaughan was born July 20, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, to William Vaughan and Dorothy Lee Barnes. He was the eldest of four children. Bill married Darlene Holston and they had one daughter together, Belinda. He cherished both of them dearly; along with his grandson Dylan, granddaughter Paige and great granddaughter Lexi Rae.

Bill was a hard worker from a young age. He was a brilliant man who was proficient at any task he undertook. He was a Hospital Administrator, a Psychotherapist, a Clinical Social Worker, Director of Education for Aladdin Beauty Colleges, a Singer, a Pastor and so much more. He was a published author who loved learning and was also known to be a “professional student,” going back to College every few years to add yet another degree to his accomplishments.

Though Bill worked night and day, he would occasionally find time to watch some of his favorite shows in his favorite spot. He enjoyed lying in bed, typing on his laptop, eating Blue Bell ice cream, while watching TV. Some of his favorite shows to watch were Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Judge Judy, and more recently The Golden Girls. He also loved to watch classic horror movies such as Frankenstein and Dracula. One of his favorite TV channels was the History Channel, as he loved learning.

Bill was a caring, helpful man, with a talent for listening. He was a man of faith who loved people, an incessant worker, and according to his best friend, he was “just the smartest man” too.

On Sunday, June 15, 2014, Billy Cohen-Vaughan made his transition. His life ended too soon; he had so much more to offer the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, William & Dorothy Vaughan, and his brother, James Vaughan.

His life and legacy will continue to be honored, celebrated and remembered by his wife of 44 years, Darlene, of Seagoville; his daughter, Belinda Smith and her husband “Bo,” of Seagoville; his grandson, Dylan Hendricks; his granddaughter, Paige Hendricks; great-granddaughter, Lexi Rae Padgett; his brothers: Gary Vaughan and wife, Cheryl, of Sachse, and Ricky Vaughan of Garland; his best friends and Godparents of his grandchildren, Larry & Linda Petty; and many more nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bill and I were classmates in the adult bar/bat mitzvah class at Temple Shalom. The two of us once arrived 15 minutes early to class and talked non-stop until the rest of the class arrived. I don't remember what subjects we talked about, but it was a great conversation! Bill was a warm, friendly kind of guy!

Bill means more to our family than words can express. The world has lost one of the most loving, unique, smart men I'll ever know. My deepest sympathy for the family he was so proud of, and for all who dearly love Bill. I imagine him and our son together now with great big smiles on their faces; free from all pain and struggle.

Bill will be sorely missed by many people as he was one of the kindest and caring people I have ever met. Bill was always looking out for those in need and always ready to help those in need and in pain. He often set aside his own needs to meet those of others. His true love for his fellow man will never be forgotten by the many he has touched with his caring. A truly good human being was lost to us when Bill left our world. The peace Bill can experience now, however, is very much deserved after the life he lived and all the gifts of knowledge and love that he has given to others.

Darlene, Belinda, and family,
So sorry about the loss of Bill. Although I'm the "much" younger cousin (I think I was three when you married) I do have fond memories, stories told to me by my sisters that were so very close to Bill. My dad used to brag about how smart Bill was and oh how he could sit and listen to him sing. I think Bill did what my dad wanted, he went to college and made something of himself. We were all so proud of him. Much love and many prayers sent!
