GREENSBORO Billy Burns Mims, Sr., 92, of Friends Homes Guilford, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 13, 2016.The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, with interment following in Guilford Memorial Park. Mr. Mims was born in Guilford County, April 9, 1924, to the late Frank Burns Mims and Madie Stevenson Mims. Mr. Mims is survived by his daughter, Connye M. Post of Greensboro; sons, Rev. Dr. Billy B. Mims, Jr. (Sherry) of Greensboro and Randy Mims of Apalachicola, FL; stepdaughter Debbie Roberts (Bill) of Naples, FL; grandchildren: John T. Mims (Laura) of Greensboro, Rev. Stephen F. Mims (Staci) of Lexington, SC, Brendan W. Mims (Rachel ) of Greenville, NC, Amanda W. Post of Greensboro, Lucas S. Post (Rachel) of Browns Summit, Seth G. Post (Cheryl) of Greensboro, Erin Gideon (Jay) of Melbourne, FL, Courtney Lee (Cody) of Naples, FL; and twelve great-grandchildren.Mr. Mims was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he had served on the Church Council and sang in the choir. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight instructor during World War II. He worked in sales for Southern Electric for 27 years and retired from Industrial Transmissions. His passion for golf led him to become the Super Senior Golf Champion in Greensboro twice. He was a thoroughly true Tar Heel fan, served as a past president of the Gate City Civitan Club, was a longtime member of the Greensboro Elks Club, and served on the founding board of the Friendly Park Pool.The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home North Elm Chapel, and at 1:00 p.m. at the church on Monday.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 3600 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410.Online condolences may be sent through www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
