Betty Ann, I am thinking of you very early this morning, and who knows, it's maybe that you are awake as well... Mothers' Day is coming up in a few days, and you'll likely be overwhelmed with emotion. Know that someone is thinking of you, and asking that angels surround you this Sunday. May you feel my hug in their holding you. Isabelle

Dear Betty Ann & Ken,
My heart goes to out to you in this sad, sad time. BJ was such a fine young man in the truest sense of the word. He lived his life as we wish we all could – confident, brave, principled and with a great sense of humour. When I was SK Minister of Environment I got to know BJ through his work with the Green Strategy in 2005. His leadership was wonderful! And of course that was just a small part of his contribution to make this world a much better, greener place!
Take care - BJ will always have a place in all of our hearts!

BJ and I were pretty good friends in high school... I'd lost touch with him after the first couple of years at university and I was really shocked to hear that he passed away. He was a really funny and quick witted guy and I know he left an impression on anyone he met. I hope he found peace. I am so sorry for your loss.

As a parent I feel your pain of loss of a child. Through your beautiful obituary of your son, I have been inspired, although I have not known him. His life was meaningful and enriched by values that we would all be wealthier in spirit to learn. No words can ever take away your pain, your loneliness, or fill the emptiness that his loss in your lives has created. May you but be comforted in knowing that in his life he left a legacy of meaning - both to those that knew him, those that felt his passion for the values he strongly shared, and even those that have read of his life, and did not know him, personally. May you be comforted to know that his energy lives onward, and that his life had meaning and purpose.

How ironic was it that I learned of BJ's death while on a student trip to Grasslands National Park. I cannot imagine the loss you are feeling and can only hope that the collective wishes and fond memories of those of us who knew BJ will help in some small way. He was a fine young man, a privilege to teach, someone who always kept me on my toes in the most positive of ways. Whether it was building the ultimate student desk, or reveling in the blessing of a late spring snowfall, his creativity and outlook had an impact on all of us.

My deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathies to the Bodnar family on this tragic loss.
BJ was a kind, hilarious, compassionate friend, having done more good in his young years than most of us will in our lifetimes. It wasn't his awards, nor his accomplishments, not even his unwavering ethical compass that made him remarkable to me and the rest of the Top 20 Under 20 family, but the simple fact that he would never look down on anyone unless it was to offer them a helping hand up.
Rest peacefully, dear friend. You will be terribly missed. It was an honor and privilege to have known you.

I met BJ when judging him at debate tournaments. I was very impressed with his debate and speaking skills, but there was something else about him I found so captivating. I made a point of speaking to him afterwards - he was one of the most genuine, considerate, compassionate individuals I'd met. He was so worldly for someone so young. I'm not surprised at the man he became. What a loss to society, but more significantly, what a profound loss to you, his family. My condolences.
