Bob Gasperson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 21, 2025.
Harry Robert Gasperson, Jr., 86, of Summerfield, FL passed away the afternoon of April 7, 2025, surrounded by 4 generations of family members.

He was known to us by several names: Bob, Bobby, Dad, Granddaddy, Great-granddaddy, brother, uncle, and cousin.

Not only was he a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was first and foremost a child of God.

Bob was born in Black Mountain, North Carolina on Christmas Day, 1938, to Harry Robert Sr., and Annie Irene Rogers Gasperson. As he grew up listening to his dad play the fiddle, Bob discovered he had a talent for singing.

That beautiful baritone voice took him many places as he sang and played guitar both with a band and solo.

After he came to know the Lord, Bob spent many years in the church blessing others with his songs.

He blessed his family even more with that music and we take comfort in knowing he is now singing in the presence of the Lord with those who have gone before.

He served in the Air Force before going to work at Kearfott Aerospace Manufacturers in Black Mountain. After he married, Bob and his family moved to Florida where he entered the roof truss manufacturing industry for the bulk of his career.

After retirement he worked as the maintenance supervisor at Trinity Baptist church and was also a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Bob was a dedicated husband to our mother Joan for 51 years before she passed away in 2018. He found love again when he married Karen Lyons Cogan and they were able to spend more than five years doing life together.

Bob is survived by Karen, his children Terry and Darin and Darin's wife Tina; grandchildren Heather and her husband Ron, Holly, Ian, Mackenzie and her husband Nick, and Liam, and great-grandchildren Jordan, Kaylee, Christina, June, Charles, Lillian, Eleanor, Josephine, Sybil, and Theodore.

Celebration of Life is May 3, 2025 at 10:00am at Trinity Baptist Church 1600 SE 58th Ave, Ocala, FL 34480. Flowers are welcome, or you may make a donation to the Cornerstone Ministry of Trinity Baptist Church if you prefer.

As a long-time friend of Karen's, my husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and listening to him sing when they visited us in Maryland. We are so happy that Karen and Bob had a second chance at love and 5 years together. We liked learning more about Bob through the well-written obituary. Our sympathy goes out to you Karen and to Bob's family for your loss.

Terry and Darren, Dick and I were so saddened by the passing of our good friend Bob. Dick and Bob's friendship began when they were about 6 years old and continued as they roomed together one year at Appalachian. We were saddened when they decided to move to Florida, but when we were in the area we would stop by and spend the night.
We enjoyed the friendship of Bob and Joan and we're happy to have met Karen on one of their visits to Black Mountain.
