Bob L. Phillips, 69, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Bob was born May 21, 1947, in Owensboro, Kentucky to Harold and Nancy (Harrison) Phillips. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1970, and went on to graduate from Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY with a Masters of Divinity and Masters of Theology.

Bob was in ministry for over 40 years. Together with David Wilkerson, he was pastor of Times Square Church in New York City. Bob is a published author and ran a radio ministry, Come Up Higher, for five years. He served as Head of Pastoral Ministries and Chairman of the Board of Brownsville School of Revival in Pensacola, Florida. He was Pastor at Encourager Church in Houston, Texas for 14 years. Bob was a founding member and Senior Editor for Kairos Journal, a website dedicated to encouraging and emboldening pastors, since 2002. The Journal has supplied all of the ancillary materials for the NIV Unapologetic Study Bible, which will be published by Thomas Nelson in September 2017. He most recently served as the Director of the Academy for Cultural Transformation and as one of the teaching pastors at Heartland Church in Ankeny, Iowa.

Bob loved people and gave generously of himself to others. His friends and family enjoyed his smile, humor, kindness and caring spirit. Those that know him know of his love of the Word of God and his love of the Lord.

Bob was married to his wife Sherry for 34 years. He loved her greatly. Bob loved his children, Nicole and Andrew, so very much, and he found great joy in always being there for them, spending time with them, and blessing them in any way he could.

Pastor Bob was a great help to myself and a group of 30 people who attended Times Square Church in the 90's. We left a cult and his counseling helped set us free from the bondage we were in. So thankful for him and thankful he is now in the presence of Jesus, our beloved Savior and Lord. It is always such a comfort to know that we will see him again soon - Jesus is coming soon.

I wish he had been able to read my first book published & dedicated to him in March 2017... "The Seasons of Time" ( http://johnbissessar.info )... Pastor Bob L. Phillips inspired me to write it after fascinating me many years ago when he preached a message entitled "Follow Me" at TSC...

I thank GOD for Pastor BOB Phillips. I thank GOD for the words of he preached that were life changing. In Times Square Church where he served as one of the pastors many years ago.. we always look forward to listen to his preaching and we would stay whole day in church because of our excitement and anticipation to hear more from GOD through his preaching. It is my prayer for the family that you will experience the comforting PRESENCE of the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY knowing that he is now in the embrace of the LORD and I do believe GOD said to him among the saints.. " Well done, good and faithful servant!"

Dear Sherry, Nicole and Andrew,

My deepest and sincerest condolences on your loss; though we know he is with his longed for Lord and Savior Jesus, now and forevermore.

I was schooled by your dad both from the Times Square Pulpit and hundreds of tapes. I like to tell people that I 'cut my spiritual eye teeth' on Bob Phillips. What my ministry is today, I owe in significant part to just how God used 'Pastor Bob' in doing His work in making me fit for loving labor in His field.

Many a time I walked up 51st Street from 8th Avenue on the way to the church, and I would see the four of you on your way for Sunday's 10 a.m. service where your dad would be preaching almost every week.

My most favorite words from your dad were, "Are you hearin' what I'm sayin'?" -- I certainly did!

I miss him from the TSC days, but know that you will all miss him more than I can ever imagine.

God bless you all richly and comfort you most sweetly at this time and into the future as you walk ever toward Jesus' promises; precious and exceeding.

My wife and I are praying for you at this time and into the future.

by His grace,

Rev. David & Rosemary Mapes

I cannot put into words what this man meant to me! When I first became a christian 27 years ago, Bob Phillips was one of the main pastors at my church. I don't know if I'd still be a christian today if not for the strong, vibrant foundation his teachings placed in my life. I'm saddened to learn that he is no longer with us, but I also know Bob Phillips is not dead. He is alive and well on the other side, and I am so grateful for the life he lived here on Earth.
