Bob Thaggard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2025.
Robert "Bob" Luis Thaggard, 64, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 10, 2025 after a prolonged illness. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 17, 1961 to Jeanne (Mason) Thaggard and Luis De La Cerna.

Bob graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree in Advertising and a master's degree in German. A lifelong lover of academia, Bob continued his studies later in life at Southern Methodist University, earning a master's degree in Liberal Studies and becoming an active member of the SMU community. He spent the majority of his career in real estate lending at Goldman Sachs, and later at Cantor Fitzgerald. Bob will be remembered for his endless funny stories, his mentorship of younger associates, his love of dogs (especially his beloved standard poodles Mac Poodle and Mac Muttley), as well as his passion for writing.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Stephanie Tanner (Rob), nephews and niece, and many close friends and colleagues. Bob's ashes will be interred at a private service at Sparkman/Hillcrest and a reception celebrating his life will be held at a later date.

Dear Stephanie, my heart aches for you and your family as I learned of Bob's passing. He is well and at peace with your mom and grands now. I have such fond memories of both of you in childhood and your mother was such a dear and precious friend.
We shared great memories and found our bond in our faith in our dear Lord Jesus where Bob now basks in glory.
My prayers are for your comfort and peace as you continue your life with two dear sons and wonderful Rob.
With love, Doran

Bob and I had a special bond while studying at SMU. I adored him, and he would make me giggle when class got too serious. We shared a love for poodles, the German language, and writing. Big hugs to all he touched.

Bob- Your flower and a favorite memory in Palm Springs are but two of a thousand points of love and light from this world to your blessed place in heaven. We love you and will miss you but promise to laugh and play lots of cards in your honor.

I got to know Bob when we were both studying at SMU getting Masters of Liberal studies. We shared several writing classes as disciples of Gary Swaim and did a romp with Gary also for our SMU Study Abroad in England and France summer of 2013. He and I collabed while we were doing our writing assignments on that trip over pints at several of the pubs. He sent me a copy of his novel, The Thinker, as he wanted my critique. I enjoyed doing that for him. I will miss him and seeing his travels that he was so generous in sharing. Bob was a true Renaissance man. His interests & accomplishments were myriad.
Bob swam competively with Longhorn Masters & WAWA in Austin for many years. He was much loved by his teammates & coaches. The friendships made thru swimming lasted a lifetime.
Bob had an irreverent & irrepressible sense of humor not to be soon replaced or forgotten.
He was a loyal & dear friend.
Vaya con Dios, Bobby T.
You are loved.
