Bobby Cargill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2012.
Funeral Services for Dr. Bobby J. Cargill will be held Thursday, September 20, at 2:00 at Central Baptist Church, 1991 FM 158, College Station, Texas. There will be a visitation Wednesday, September 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Cargill home.

Dr. Bobby Cargill was born in Bryan, TX March 22, 1935, the son of the late George and Stella Cargill. He left to be with his heavenly father on September 17, 2012. Bobby graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and TAMU College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 1960. He married Barbara Joy Hall, daughter of Charles "Red" and Vera Hall November 24, 1954.

After graduation he served in the U.S. Armed Services Veterinary Corp from 1962 to 1964. At the conclusion of his service he returned to Bryan where he practiced Veterinary Medicine at Bryan Animal Clinic along with his brother Howard. Later he was co-owner of El Cerrito Animal Clinic until his retirement in 1995.

Ranching was Bobby's passion. He served as President of the Bryan Young Farmers from 1965-66, Agriculture Vice President of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce from 1972-74 and was one of the founders and President from 1976-78 of the Brazos County Youth Livestock Association. Dr. Bobby served for more than thirty years on the steer committee for the Houston Livestock Show. For a number of years he was successful in raising club calves. He produced many show winners for young men and women. His calves won first place at local shows as well as several breed champions at the prestigious Houston Livestock Show.

Over the years he and his wife, Barbara, mentored many young people. Through his influence, they have gone on to become successful Veterinarians, business men, and leaders in their communities. He was a role model of utmost character and a faithful servant. He will be greatly missed and his legacy will live on through the character that he instilled in others.

Doc and Barbara have been faithful members of Central Baptist Church, Bryan since 1967. They started the Married Young Adults class and Dr. Bobby has taught the 3 year olds for many years. He was a faithful follower of Christ which he exhibited by his service to his church, his friends and his family.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, George and Stella Cargill and sister Louise and her husband Jerry Waggoner.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter Jan and her husband Dr. Mike Connolly; son Ken and his wife Jamie; grandchildren Scott Krupa and wife Jennifer, Lori and her husband Ky Carlson, Matt Cargill and fiancé Jess Schumann, and Kaley Cargill; great grandchildren Sam and Sydney Krupa, and Cason, Cole and Cody Carlson; brothers Bud, Howard and his wife Irene, sister Joyce and her husband Dr. Fred Martin; many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Remembering my mentor and friend, Dr. Bobby, is always a mixed bag, albeit mostly happy since the only sad part is of his passing. I'm sure that his family as well as the hundreds of friends that remember Doc share this one common bond; we are all Better people for knowing him. God bless ya Doctor Bobby and I'm looking forward to seeing ya in heaven, some day.

It’s impossible that 8 years have passed in this world since Doc was with us. My heart remembers like it was yesterday... sitting at the kitchen table with him, interpreting his hand signals, going to church and leaving fast, talking at the clinic while he ate a Snickers bar. It’s too fresh. I miss him just as much as the day we laid his body to rest. Yet I know I will see him again, glorified and with a body that is perfectly whole and feet that no longer need special shoes that still hurt his feet. I will see him again and what a glorious day that shall be!

He was a great man and definitely touched my life in a big way. I will always kick myself for not getting up there to visit after leaving Bryan-College Station. I learned so much from him. Not just about veterinary medicine but also a great deal about life. The man was always full of advice. And I mean that in a good way. He cared. Will love him always.

Dearest Granny Cargill and your Dear family
We have the most wonderful memoriss of Doc and while he would stand and have the biggest smile while unloading steers that were acting crazy jumping out trailers dragging people around (Robert Alan)for one.

I have to tell you that Dr Bobby was the most wonderful and loving man and to this day we knew he would always be there for us all. Granny we love you all so very much and you know there was only one Doc Bobby he was an inspiration to everyone he touched. He will be missed so dearly.

Bobby was a kind, Christian gentlemen. I first met Bobby when my father was his pastor at Saints Rest Baptist Church in Steep Hollow. My family was invited many times for Sunday dinner after church in the George Cargill home where we came to know the entire Cargill family. I pray that Bobby's family will find peace at this very sad time. God bless all of you.
