WAKALIUK, Anthony (Tony) Mario It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Tony Wakaliuk who returned peacefully to the Father's house on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Extended Care Unit of the Welland Hospital in his 81st year. He was born in Cernauti, Romania (Chernivtsi, Ukraine) on September 19, 1939 and immigrated to Port Colborne with his family in 1950 from their home in Wels, Austria. Tony worked for 32 years at General Motors and retired in 1995. After this he spent his life happily at home taking care of his grandchildren, and doing what he loved best, reading, listening to music and watching soccer. Tony was a long-time member of the St. Kevin Church choir. He is survived by his loving wife Miranda. Loving father of Anita Howald (Jeff), Joseph Tomaino, and Frank Tomaino (Kerri). He was the loving grandfather of six grandchildren, Kelsea, Samuel, Sydney, Elizabeth, Louisa, and Evelyn. He is also survived by mother-in-law Lorenza Ianni, brothers-in-law Joe Dosky, Edgar Blais, and sisters-in-law Patricia Walkaliuk, Bernarda Colitti, and Sister Margherita Ianni, SSC; and nieces and nephews, Patricia Mercuri (Frank), Paul Dosky (Maria), Paul Wakaliuk, Kevin Wakaliuk, Mary Ann Colitti, Lisa Draper (Jon), Joseph Blais (Joanna), Daniel Blais (Meagan), and Brittany Fedrau (Adam). He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Helene Wakaliuk, his sisters Angela Dosky (Joe), Ursula Wakaliuk and brother Michael Wakaliuk (Patricia); father-in-law Ettore Ianni (Lorenza), brother-in-law Anthony Colitti (Bernarda) and sister-in-law Mary Blais (Edgar). The family will receive friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence , 19 Young Street, Welland on Friday, September 27th 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Community of St. Kevin. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, or to the Welland Hospital - Extended Care Unit would be greatly appreciated by the family. Online memories and condolences at www.jjpatterson.ca As a memorial tribute, a tree will be planted through The Niagara Woodlands Restoration Program. A tree grows - memories live.
