Bobby Summerville Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 25, 2025.
Danielsville - Bobby John Summerville, age 86 of Danielsville, Georgia passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025.

A son of the late Marvin Davison Summerville and Margaret Powers Summerville, he was born June 30, 1938 in Toccoa, Georgia. He was a graduate of Toccoa High School. He spent a lot of time racing cars. He earned his BEE from Georgia Tech (working on the railroad to pay his way he would sometimes catch rides in open rail cars back home to visit). He traveled by submarine, while working for Sperry Aerospace and Engineering, up to New York City where he met his first wife, Eileen McHugh. After some time in Toccoa, the couple moved to Atlanta, where Bobby completed his private pilot license, an MBA from Georgia State University, transitioned into the field of computers and raised three daughters.

His second wife, Ginny Patton, brought him to Danielsville, Georgia where he lived for thirty five years, growing tomatoes worth eating, fixing things on "the farm", finally domesticating the black vultures that lived in the barn, but never the cats.

Following a storied career working for many esteemed companies, as well as starting several independent business ventures, ranging across engineering, computer, and construction fields, he came back to consulting as an Electrical Engineer working on problems as complicated as nuclear power plants and traveling as far as Dubai.

He was heavy for his weight and tall for his size but his feet touched the floor every day he got out of bed. He spent as much time fixing cars as driving them, loved any and all time in a boat on a lake (the favorite Vintage Chris-Craft), would fly his Piper Apache as far as a tank of gas would get him and he never stopped figuring things out in the world, although the last problem was a real conundrum.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny Patton and her children, Stacy, Holly, Matt and Marcy; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat Rosend (Dave) and their children David and Chris of Fairfax, Virginia, Mary Songster (Michael) and their children Maggie and Lois of Athens, Georgia and Dede Summerville of Athens, Georgia; siblings and their spouses, Phil Summerville (Marcell) and their son Brent of Maiden, North Carolina, Janice Whiten and her children, Paige and Parker of Gainesville, Georgia and Bruce Summerville(Amelia) and their children Tony, Stacy and Halley of Huntsville, Alabama.

Memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
