My wife Milly and I will really miss Bob. Bob and I were good friends and even sat next to one another in the Ruidoso Community Choir. We hope to keep seeing Carol in Alto. We very much enjoyed doing things with them-- like eating and bridge and, once or twice, dancing. Bob and I pretty much agreed on politics and discussed it whenever we had a chance. Milly and I are in the Ruidoso UU group and also enjoyed being with Bob and Carol there.

Mr. Thigpen, Andy, and I would occasionally go to the park and play football. Mr. Thigpen would play the role of rotating QB. Frequently Andy would yell at his dad because he thought he was throwing better passes to me! Andy would yell at his father, and his father would semi-yell back at his son. Andy was very competitive, and I would have to step in and deflate tempers.

When I was a youth, I remember going to Mr. Thigpen´s home. I remember seeing burlap sacks, perhaps even bushels, of things such as rolled oats, barley, raisins, nuts, etc. throughout the kitchen. It was like walking into a trading post from an old Western movie! That is when I found out he made his own granola.

I have known Mr. Thigpen for the majority of my life. In his obituary, that happened to be a wonderful read, I found out he attended LSU. How did I not know that?? I may be an Aggie by education, but I am a Tiger by soul.

I never called him Bob. I always called him
Mr. Thigpen. Perhaps it was due out of respect, his physical stature, or my military upbringing! Even as I became an adult, he would tell me to call him Bob. I just could not do it.

Sending love from Portland Oregon to Jude and Amy. Your Dad was blessed with delightful, intelligent, strong and soft daughters! My heart is with you as you hold this ancient rite of passage with your family.

We had such a fun at your wedding, Amy and Jeff. Your dad was such a smooth dancer and was so easy to follow. What a wonderful celebration it was!

He was a great fellow and a wonderful cousin. He was always a joy to be around!
