Bobette Zacharias Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2014.
Bobette "Bobbie" Zacharias, longtime friend and benefactor of the The John Howard Association died October 1st. Her partner in life, James Zacharias, was former JHA Board President. Bobbie, a graduate of Northwestern University School of Music was a concert pianist, educator and author of MAMA's MAXWELL STREET. Founding member of North Shore Women for Peace, she was an early supporter of President Barack Obama. In response to the 1968 Chicago riots, Bobbie helped found the Alliance to End Repression as well as other groups to protect the rights of the underdog. An entertainer par excellence she welcomed many into her home. Always with a sense of humor, she challenged friends and colleagues to develop their talents to benefit others. Her husband James and her son Jamie preceded her in death; she is survived by two daughters, Jody (Juergen) and Laurie, a granddaughter, Stephanie and great granddaughter, Rebecca. A memorial in Bobbie's honor is planned for a later date. Donations can be made to Beverly Farm in Bobbie's name (www.beverlyfarm.org). Arrangements were provided by Piser Funeral Services 847-679-4740

I miss you Mom. Not a day goes by when I don't think of you. Many times I have gone to the phone to tell you about one of your great granddaughters accomplishments.
You and Dad would be so very proud of her.
Give Jamie a hug for me.
